Having a little problem and I was wondering if anyone could ad a little light to the situation.

After recently updating my virus scan protection I can no longer use Edonkey2000, now some of you might not see that as a problem but I do.

With the new version of edonkey that I have it runs a program in the background appparently the is Adware. My virus scanner seems to think that either the program in the background or actual Edonkey2000.exe is a virus called GenericDownloader.a and deletes the Edonkey2000.exe

I have tried starting the program with the virus scanner disabled, but as soon as i re-enable the virus protection it shuts edonkey2000 down and deletes the .exe again.

Does anyone know of a way around this? Without Not Using Edonkey

Go Linux

or....

Buy a Mac

of course tin cans and string work well.....

And best of all, you can still keep Edonkey on your PC.

Are you sure the edonkey.exe file isn't infected? That might be why McAfee keeps deleting it.

I made the switch to emule... It doesn't download as well but atleast I can run it. I found a forum on this problem and Mcafee seems to do this every year.

I don't think they like Edonkey.

Thank's for your help.

or don't use Macafee. I don't care too much for it. I have to set up SMB scanning on clients computers all the time and Macafee kills it everytime. Even after setting it to allow it, it goes back and blocks it.

I dig AVG myself. Free and never had a problem with it

Anti-virus programme maker McAfee Inc. has admitted that its update for a number of virus-scanning products caused havoc Friday in corporate and consumer systems using the virus protection products when a virus definition file triggered the quarantine or deletion function for several executable files, including Microsoft's Excel.

The problem occurred when the company released its DAT file -- or virus definition file -- No 4715 as part of a daily updating routine and intended to refine McAfee anti-virus products' capability to catch the W95/CTX virus. In a matter of minutes, the company's customers started seeing an unusual number of files being quarantined or deleted by scans using the newly-released update.

While excel.exe was the most affected, the list of exe files released by McAfee as having affected by the update was of seven pages. Users complained that the anti-virus programme tried to remove files including Perl, Sysinternals' PcTools suite, various Oracle binaries, Dell OpenManage, Google Toolbar installer and programs that run Macromedia Flash Player, Sun's Java application and Adobe update manager.

...

Edit: Maybe You Should Switch To A Different Anti-Virus Program?

Sounds like the craetors of MCcrappy have been having a fun time destorying compies... Maybe it's just an internantional plot to reep the world of all program MCcrappy people have had a hard time with.

As for it being a program that wreacks computers I have actually had more problems with norton not being able to detect simple virus. And after a couple of reformats ago I had learnt from some technicions that is has a bad fault of wreaking gateways between partitioned drives.

McCafee has fixed the problems (apparently), But I geuss we will just have to wait for teh next "accident" mistake to occur.
