venom doesn't 'come from' spidey, venom is spidey. wrapped in a symbiotic goo from outerspace that starts to take over his image and his personality.
The trailer doesn't show anything to do with space, but so far hasn't negated that story bit either. though I won't be surprised if they do change that...
Well, originally, the symbiotic goo was "found" by Spidey in some mission involving the FF and the "beyonders", some extraterestrial race.
It stuck to him, improved his powers, then fell in love with him, stuck even more... it's only weakness being sound,
hence the "bells" in the trailer.
Once he got rid of it, it -still- was in love, which turned to hatred, it found Eddy Brock, and Venom was born.
But in the trailer, we get a glimpse of sandman, who will be there, and the "new" green goblin, we see the symbiotic goo...
But nothing, or almost nothing hints at Venom being featured. In that Eddy Brock is missing... or is he the guy who appears in the church?
Additionaly, FF 2 is due in May 2007 as well, so, for the missing part in space, who knows... could it be "told" as a crossover
in the FF2 movie? I think most of it could be skipped, and script-wise, they could just "tell" the tale without showing it, like into:
Spidey comes back from a trip to space and beyond.
Anyhow, mistery, kick-ass action, and so many ways in which the plot could evolve and revolve that I.. Well.

Except it was the Beyonder, a being from (or rather, the personification of ) another Universe that happened to notice ours and decided to "take a look".
It created a planet out of bits and pieces of others, and staged a free-for-all between the Good superheroes and Evil supervillians.
In other words, it was a Cross-over super free-for-all for Marvel Comics.
Victor von Doom (Dr. Doom) used his Armor and brains to actually drain the Beyonder of much of his power as Galactus was trying to assimulate the life-energy of the planet. The Beyonder then occupied the Claw (I think that is his name - the dude with the sonic device where his hand would normally be) to constantly undermine Dr. Doom's control over his new-found Beyonder powers, eventually causing the defeat of Dr. Doom (a mere thought from Dr. Doom became reality with the Beyonder powers).
It was really interesting to see the Molecule Man drop an entire Mountain Range on the Good guys...hehe.
It was on this planet, that Spidey came into contact with the Symbiot - that which was to become the "black" spidey suit.
Later, on earth, the FF leader Mr. Reed Richards helped Spidey get the thing off him with sonics. It seems the Symbiotic thing was controlling Peter Parker's body at night, when he slept.
The rest is well documented.

Topher Grace (That 70's Show as Eric Foreman) plays Eddie Brock.
In the teaser, you see him looking up in the church, saying "Parker..." So guess what's going to drip on him as spidey tears it away above...
In the comics, Peter Parker reveals that Eddie Brock was falsifying stories for the Daily Bugle, so he was fired and started a true hate for Parker that made him mentally unstable...and then the symbiote found him and the shared hate. Expect roughly the same in the movie.
As for the symbiote coming from space : Wasn't J Jonah Jameson's son prominently featured as an astronaut in the last film...?
FF2 will not be told as a crossover story, as the character licensing doesn't match up. FF2 is going to focus on the coming of Galactus, and has the officially working title "Fantastic Four 2 and the Silver Surfer" right now.
For those in the know about the comics, and slightly about the films, look for Bruce Campbell coming into Spiderman3 playing : Quentin Beck *grin* This would have large repercussions on his roles in the last two films, as well as his role in the next one after Raimi's departure.

It sucks a lot, potentially.
Let's face it, FF 1, the movie, was "not" a total wreckage, but not far enough to my taste.
Von doom was the ultimate schmuck, a bad parody of Spidey's green goblin, similar scenes (when he kills his doctor),
missed the mystical side, missed *anything* that relates to the comic book. Ended up stupidly too.
The invisible was too much of a year 2000 hottie to be anywhere near to "credibility".
Mr Fantastic was such a moron himself and totally lacked the "presence" of the comics character, he was a parody of a nerd, and a bad one at that, take my word.
Ben and Johnny were great, plain great. Combined with the "fast pace" of the action, they saved the spectator from giving it a second thought and finding
this movie was bullshit.
...
Now the same guys attacking a monolith like Galactus, and mixing the SILVER SURFER HIMSELF to the action... Kinda makes my blood boil.
The Silver Surfer is one of my favourites, has reached such levels of beauty in events like the Moebius-Stan Lee joints,
and reached depths of silliness on rare occasions, but the character is so sensitive, courageous, beautiful in soul and aesthetics.
I mean, even making it less than a cg masterpiece would be killing the character and movie to me.
...Will that movie be the miracle that proves Avi Arad deserves a job? Or should he bag my groceries instead, and stop massacrating comic myths?
Giving "credibility" to a character in 1 1/2 hours of screentime isn't simple in the slightest. Comic geeks need to stop looking for the ultimate experience of a character with 40 odd years of history behind them in graphic form.
Origin stories suck That's what they do. But they're necessary to bring in viewers that don't have the depth of knowledge that afficionados have. Out of the gates, FF1 didn't wow me, but I gave it a certain amount of leeway based on the above. Don't think how the Invisible Girl (which is what she started as..Sue Storm was just a girl back then) failed on screen, think of how impressive the Human Torch was in both characterization, and effects. Trust me that film could have been a hell of a lot worse (find a bootleg of Harvey Corman's FF sometime...or the absolutely wretched screentime that Captain America has had).
The buzz is that Galactus is going to be dealt with more as a GOD being. Mostly a concept, not so much the big freak in bad red and green that he started out in books as. If that's handled well, I'll be happy. As for the Silver Surfer, just be thankful that he's going to appear with the FF first (as he should) instead of the ful length feature the Arads had planned for him, first.
Try looking at any of these films as a first timer, and you'll find a whole new level of appreciation. Toss off the shackles of foolish fanboydom, and what comes is actually better than you'd think it could be. Witness what was done with Singer's Superman...
Will take the advice, I actually own FF1 myself, Johnny storm alone makes it worth it.
All in all, X-men were really good, and follow the line you describe, episode 2 being better than episode 1 in my taste.
Haven't seen episode three for I am scared that they might have tried to cram to much stuff in that one.
DD was poison: compared to the stunning Sin City, the fanboy in me cannot help but regret the time Frank Miller wrote DD, stories like
the one called "blind justice" in french, when DD nearly dies, crushed by the Kingpin, and bounces back to the top. It was dark without the need for
explicit killings, he was a doomed hero without fear.
Hellboy... masterpiece, I love Del Toro. It's easy, many people do, but it's great.
Blade, really good too, liked episode 3 a lot less.
What else? DC yeah... DarkGarden, since you are obviously very well informed about this whole buzz, any chance to see a good version of Flash at some point?
DC comics projects seem really great so far.

Nope, I'm staying a fanboy of the old Marvel.
You can have my X-Men, Defenders, Avengers, The Mighty Thor, The Hulk, Dr. Strange, The Amazing Spiderman, and Co. when you pry them out of my dead fingers.

The Flash was slated for a big screen treatment, but got set on the backburner. Then another TV show was in the works, and that bombed out, just like the Aquaman series (Mercy Reef).
The one to watch for right now, is Iron Man. Favreau has the property, and he's full steam ahead with it. Should be a good one, but will still suffer the origin problem.
Hulk is getting a sequel, which might go direct to video if they don't save it soon. Eric Bana hasn't been asked to reprise the role...and obviously it's in the hands of a new director.
Ghost Rider gets his go next year in what looks like a horrible sinker with Nick Cage...we'll see how the cgi works out after a few more months of post-production.
