That looks cool. I must ask though - if these legs are meant for something designed for battle, would it be wise to have those cables(?) attached externally? If they're vital to correct operation, a wise combatant would simply strike for the shins and immobilise the vehicle.

Yes, I know I'm a git. hehe

they are staying... because I like them

ever noticed in games though that bosses weak spots are almost always something obvious like that?

That looks incredible. I keep trying to tell myself that it's not a photograph... and it's not working (well, except for the whole head floating above the torso thing ).

As for those cables coming out the back, I've got it figured out: they're decoys. That way, when the enemy combatant swoops in to slice the cables, you can just step on him. Likewise, if he manages to cut them from a distance, you can feign malfunction and then blast him when he lets down his guard.

Hah! Now who's the bigger git?

Oh, wait.

I really really like the legs, and LOVE the cables, most concept drawings for mechs have overly extravagent engineering so I think they suit the design really well.

I think the head looks a little odd though, maybe too natural, too symmetrical, mechanical things don't need to symmetrical always. Perhaps having one big eye piece on the left side of the face would suit the mechanical look better?

kinda like the borg?

I think, mas, that he's just replaced the source image (www.workofboredom.co.uk/doodlenew.jpg) with what he's posted above. I could be wrong, but it would explain the apparent chronological discrepancy.

Either way, it's impressive stuff (IMO).

white hawk has it right, I am very sloppy and unimaginative when I name/replace files....

I have 50+ folders on my pc right now labelled 'stuff' , I am my own worst enemy when it comes to finding things

got bored with modelling and switched to textureing for a while.

quickly unwrapped the head and did a rough and nasty texture in bodypaint.

I use cinema4d and I love it lots

Thanks for the info flazza. I've been toying with the idea of "getting into 3D" for quite a while now. Usually I'm hassling friends to let me use their 3D apps on their computers and then picking their brains but the opportunities for that are rather limited nowadays. (Oooer, 3 "their"s in one sentence)I still need to check out a few others to do a comparison.
I really do like the feel of the model, texture and the lighting you have in play here.

cinema is perfect for idiots like me...

here is a picture of bodypaint in action

on the left is the 3d viewport, on the right you can see the texture with the unwrapped uv on it, this allows you to paint onto a flat surface as you would in photoshop... in fact cinema has seemless integration of layered psd files and you can directly use them as textures (perfect for tweeking opacity settings or layering modes).

Been off ill, remembered this on my hard drive and thought it would distract me from my pain

Some areas are pretty rough and low on detail at the moment.

the arm joints suck and I will be improving them soon.
