So I just finished reading Watchmen.

If you want the good ol' black and white version, click here

The delay is set a bit slow, so you'll have to wait a bit to see them all. The patterns were generated with the 'difference clouds' filter, then blurred. (and mirrored, obviously) On top goes a 'treshold' adjustment layer to create pure black and white patterns. (If this doesn't help, just ask and I'll explain futher) I think the one with my name is a bit too obvious, but it's a bit hard to work it in there.

. . . . . . . .

edit: maybe you could post your interpretations of the pictures?

I'm not familiar with Watchman, so I'm not sure what it has to do with Rorschach images.

I think I like the one here better than the black-and-white one. The edges to this one appear to be beveled a little giving it a more organic look.

It's interesting that when I watched the one here, I saw one group of pictures such as an Ewok in front of a campfire, and an Elephant, but when I looked at the black-and-white one I saw something completely different.

I like the one with your name. It looks like a Chinese ideograph.

Warthog, mech warrior, alien skull, your name... I see a lot of things. I like it!

This actually inspires me some. I sort of want to try doing the exact same thing, or close to it, but with PHP/GD and have it randomly generate them. Since I can see it taking it's good old time generating such a thing, I probably should give it a cache of pregenerated ones to use for fast loading.

Watchmen is a brilliant book, they're apparently making it into a film, but we'll see, it'll probably be dire anyway, especially since I've just looked at the cast, I imagine it'll disappear into the ether.

Nice to see you around here again Mahjqa, have you been trolling, or very busy? :P

Busy with other things, mostly. I build a lot of Lego stuff for my own entertainment.

Reminded me of a big, bulky robot, so I colored and animated it:

This is all awesome. The walking robot weighs 32kbs, the rorschach set only 39kbs (less impressive to me as I know bi or quadrichrome pictures compress well) - it's mind boggling!!

The use of contrast on the robot, between the red and slightly green tones, is a killer too! Guess the palette is 16 or 32 colors max, am I right?

For some reason, and I used to sketch a bit and go right down to sketching faces (that, for years, expressed anger to a degree) - well, for some reason,
I see faces, pretty super-evilish ones at that.

Yup, the robot is 32 colors. 16 might've been okay too, but I thought the filesize was acceptable for what it was. The Rorschach is indeed a bit bigger, but that's because I insisted on 6 colors (black, white, transparent and 3 shades of grey) (substitute asylum colors where appropriate) to make it look nice. The 42 frames of animation might've helped a bit

That you're seeing faces isn't coincidental. I modified some patterns to be more face-like in shape (I cut off the bottom corners) and handpicked the patterns I thought to be interesting and mean-ish.
