So I've recently picked up an HTC Hero, which uses Google Android as it's OS and one of the apps I've downloaded for it, is called Listen, this let's me subscribe to podcasts and browse an endless list of topics and popular searches.

I'm not very familiar with quality podcasts so I was wondering if any folks here at the Asylum listen to any good ones when they're chilling in their cell?

I've found a nice one for learning Cantonese, I was hoping there'd be something for French too, but I'm not just interested in learning languages, any podcasts I should definitely check out?

Cheers,

Blaise.

Good for you, giving Android a go! I have Listen, also, but haven't had the time to check it out properly. I would also be interested in recommendations.

Here are a couple I listen to often.
In Our Time Melvyn Bragg's Peerless series.
Discovery A rather nice science podcast.
Both are from aunty Beeb whom I love

As it happens I'm planning to get a phone using Android myself. I thought Spotify would be great for this, but then I realised you have to be a "Premium" member to use it on your phone which means monthly payments of £9.99 (I don't think so) .Does Listen require a monthly subscription like Spotify?

No, Listen doesn't require a fee.

I have the Spotify app, and it's prompted me to purchase a premium license, I've really enjoyed having it, listening to your playlists on the move (including downloading them for when on the tube) has been liberating, I think it's worth the money.

This is a pretty decent science show. http://www.cbc.ca/quirks/

And this is one of my favorite programs. Not all episodes are available as podcasts unfortunately. The podcast link on the left explains why and shows what's available.

Tonight for example it's part 2 of "The Evolution of Charles Darwin"

@Tao - CBC the Canadian version of BBC is sometimes referred to as The Queens Microphones and is roundly despised by private broadcasters and conservative politicians who frankly just don't get it.

A friend over there in blighty has a company that's done some work for your aunty Beeb.

I love using Spotify and Android is definitely the way for me. It's just that I can no longer afford another £10.00 a monthly payout. My internet connection at this new address is £10.00 pm more expensive than my last (cable) connection. As I can't get cable here I have to suffer with piping down a phone-line DRAT and double DRAT!
Otherwise I'd be checking Spotify on Android out like a champ.

This is a friends podcast of rather quirky and eclectic music. I think it could be either a treasure or a pain depending upon ones musical pallet.

NoJive I love the sound of "The Queens Microphones" I think I may be using that term in the near future.

Nice music podcast Tao! What a great gravelly Scouse accent the DJ has!

CPrompt I'll have a look at some of those, one or two of them might be good for when I need to get to sleep, just joking! I'll take a look at the Linux ones for sure.

If you're into computer games, I find Evil Avatar's Shotgun podcast quite fun and listenable.

In the gay community the CBC is sometimes referred to as "Canada's Biggest Closet" .... Queens of a different flavor. =)

I'd recommend another computing podcast Security Now. They succeed in the difficult task of making computer security interesting.
Also the recent off topic Vitamin D episode was superb... it certainly made me take a supplement.
