I'm partial to the old CodingHorror.com/blog captcha system. It required for posting that you enter a captcha- which was always the word 'Orange' with a few lines drawn in it. He posted about it once, about how it stops the great majority of spam that is not hand-entered. I think the idea was that most robotspam doesn't even try, and the site isn't high-profile enough that more effort is required. If some robot DID figure out that all it had to do was enter 'orange' every time, he could just as easily change the 'pass word' and the image.

Maybe we can choose a word- say, 'crazy'- and have the ps forum come up with several pics for it.

Contemporary "CAPTCHAs" (quoted because if they aren't actually what they're named to be [because if they were they'd work, and we wouldn't be having this discussion]) are backwards. What you should do is have something that learns what is and isn't spam, and over time disable it before it's even added (just let them attempt to add it, you can always block it because it's the same or from the same IP, too, for bandwidth issues). That is, identify your enemy and nullify them, instead of merely having your enemy jump through hoops.

It seems to me that you just want to stop the evolution of spambots, Reisio. Come on - not every AI is destined to become a world-dominating genocidalist. You're just being prejudiced.

I agree, though. I think spam defences should be more offensive. Once the anti-spam ban-bot is intelligent enough to determine intelligence, we can strap it into a mech chasis, send it out to track down spammers in the real world, and eventually eliminate them completely!

We already have a registration captcha - the famous recaptcha. Either it's easily broken by the bots or they ain't bots at all.

Bad-Behaviour is a whole different concept based on user agent sniffing.
