ImageReady, which comes with recent versions of Photoshop. That's going to be 85% of the answers you get here; anyone want to chime in with the rest? I know there are a few good free tools out there, I just never had any reason to find out what they are. |

Yes PSP is still used to ship with Animation Shop. It is still here in the 7.04 version. This is the GIF animation tool I use; it is very good to my point of view and I never noticed any flaw in it. |

Coffee Cup Gif Animator is really good. I tried out the demo. I think it only costs $30.00USD |

Would go for Animation Shop, you even could use old (ancient) .fli and .flc files (remember 3D animations under dos?) and convert them to animated gif. |

Photoshop 5.5 came with ImageReady 2.0, which could slice things like a samurai. Since then, each version of Photoshop has been paired with the slice-tastic ImageReady. |

"Oh, i forgot i had that one as a sig. Do tell me how pretty you think it is, or i won't take it off my signature." - said arthemis as she nonchalantly did so. |

Your sig doesn't match very well the Asylum layout and colors. |
