A mother is 21 years older than her son.
In six years time the son will have the age of 5 times younger than the mother.
Question: WHERE IS THE FATHER?

You will have to do some calculations to get the answer!
Pay attention to the question: Where is the father?

Will give the answer later

Why must I do this? And, no matter how clever you may think the answer is, no mathematical calculation is going to tell you where the father of this child may be at any particular moment.

I'd say the Father is with the Mother...intimately, if you catch my drift...

It's the only conclusion that makes sense to me...unless she was artificially inseminated, that is...then no telling where the Father is...hehe...

binary: did I say I can't do the quiz? No. I just asked a question (why must I do this?) and made a statement (no amount of calculation will be able to tell you where the father is).

The reason I made the above statement is that the "quiz" itself is rather vague. At what point in time are you asking for the father's location? In any case, as WS pointed out, you can never say for certain where the father will be at any given time. Thus I find this silly. That is my prerogative. I'm interested to see what answer you are going to give, though.

Also, you said in your first post that you will give "the answer" later, and then you go on to say that there is never one right answer. So, which is it?

With the latter in mind, though, my answer is that the father is out shooting pool (and I didn't even need either a pen or a nap to do that). I'll justify my answer when you justify yours.

And yes, I am picking on you. Why? Because you have a special place in my heart.

OK, binary, let's get some things straight here:

1) There are no queues. People post whenever they feel like it. (And see #3 below.)

2) I'm not really giving anything away.

3) You do not tell me when and where I can post. People are sometimes under the mistaken impression that starting a thread makes it "their thread," but nothing could be further from the truth. Once threads are started they are in the public domain, and no one can tell anyone else whether they may post or not.

4) You use way too many rolleyes and angry slimies for your own good.

5) You have a tendency to take things way too seriously sometimes.

I'm going to bed now, so feel free to throw a temper tantrum or make as much noise as you feel necessary. Have a nice day.

mahjqa....congrats....i c u got the answer finally ( after editing )....

Let me put it in layman terms...( glances over at Suho )...so so easy..

Solution:
The child is X years old today
The mother is Y years old today

== X+21=Y
In 6 years time:
(X+6)=(Y+6)/5, which means:
5(X+6)=Y+6 -substituting Y(where Y=X+21),we’ll have: 5X+30 = X+21+6
4X = -3
X = -3/4

The child in now -¾ years old, meaning –9 months.

Where we concluded that:

The father is on top of the mother….

....approximately 11.25 pm ( the time is a bit tricky more calculations)....

binary: What I found most amusing is that you think I didn't know the answer to this. As Petskull said, this question is way old, and I still stand by my original statement (you're trying to "nail down" (ahem) a very brief window of time with a very vague calculation).

However, if you are the kind of person who can only feel better about themselves by belittling others, by all means, go ahead and belittle me. It won't matter to me one way or the other, but if I can make your life just a little bit brighter I will consider it all worthwhile.

And yes, just in case you missed the subtlety, I'm teasing you again. I think it should be obvious by now why I tease you, and I think it's about time we admitted it. I really don't think I can keep it a secret anymore...

binary and I are in love.

Yes, the petty bickering, the squabbling back and forth--all of it born of a desire to express our feelings for each other repressed by a fear of stigmatization. Well, I just can't live that way anymore. It's time to stop the charades and let everyone know the truth.

Ah, I feel like a burden has been lifted from my shoulders.

Besides, by the time the sperm actually penetrates the egg, the father could have had a sandwich and be asleep in the apartment down the hall.

(And, WS, don't tell me you can't get sandwiches in Germany either.)

I disagree. The question was "where IS the father" and not "where WAS the father". So, actually, even the question itself is contradictory unless, again, the guy is already a father of another baby or whatever.
Uhmmm, nonetheless, if the question must make sense, and it must, so there is a hint that the guy is indeed already a father, not of the one being made at that very pleasurable moment... And since the question poses that the yelling woman is already also a mother, she has to have another baby also.
I wonder if they are married or if they may be cheating on someone else... That would be hideous.

I think we are probably putting too much effort into this.

That said viol is right about the 'Where IS the father' - this would suggest he could be in any number of places/positions:

1. Sitting nervously outside the delivery room (with a few cigars tucked in his top pocket)..

2. Driving like a mad man to hospital with amniotic fluid sloshing around in the foot well of his car.

3. Completely oblivious to proceedings having 'shot and run' nine months previously.

4. Getting in the way of the nurses while trying to video the birth.

etc.......................................

How does that follow?

One must eat a sandwich to regain the energy one has spent in the last 3 hours of activity. And that's just to have the energy to get back and complete the task.

A minute isn't gonna a person hungry.
