I prefer nine-ball. Less clutter, so if you get a hot streak you can run the table more easily; and since both players are working on the same "stack" of balls, there's more tension, since a single slip-up can give the game to your opponent. It's just a faster-moving, higher-skill game of pool.

^Agreed. Nine ball rules. Of course, I haven't played it in years, so I probably suck at it, but it still rules.

Yeah, Nine ball is fun.

So, I think I'd better get both of them when I get to University Curicula.

I've heard from the 3D world people that MAC's space is larger than PC's and doesn't always has the tendency to crash down unlike PC.

oh, so...what kind of computer do you have?

I've got PC at home, apparently this computer that I'm using right now ain't mine. I just don't like the way it always crashes, that's about all. I've got PIII with uploaded WINDOWS XP Pro. and it's still slow. I don't know what to do since, I'm no great at this stuff.
Someone have already divided the hard drive in to two in case if we want to join in a virus war.

Um, Ini, dude. Chill.
"Of course, there are and always will be exceptions depending on the programs you use, have access to, or have the $$$ to buy."

I never said that the PC *couldn't do* those tasks. Merely that a large portion of the Mac-spectrum of computing is geared towards those tasks, and as such, is often considered to be superior in that realm. It is not always that way, obviously. (Which I conceded..)

Think I was "insisting"? I was clarifying a statement that someone else had made, to note some where some confusion often lies.

As for your rant on OS's and machines, I won't disagree with it. I have long maintained that each computer *can* be well suited for anything, but whether it *tends* to go towards one side of tasks or the other is different. The point is, whether you like it or not, that a very large portion of the Mac-world is geared towards these kinds of tasks, and will probably always be, because this is one of it's niches in the computer market. (Arguably, it has a few other niches, like being "user-friendly"/Good for computer illiterates, etc.)

As for my arguing "childishly" and "pathetically", I'd look at who feels the need to resort to expletives and/or insults to prove points.

And I certainly don't say this because "my sister said so", it's because I have a fair deal of experience on both ends of the PC/Mac spectrum, and I feel justified in saying that my Mac is generally better suited for it, out of the box and with a few boxes of software.

"Childishly, senselessly, pathetically yours",

I fail to see where you pick up that my Mac experience is solely limited to multimedia.

Tell me, which of these would be more common: 1. Someone uses their Mac to burn CD's, DVD's, makes some home movie, etc, or 2. Puts up a professional web server? I think you'll find 1-5% use their Mac for option number 2.

A warning, though: Mac evangelists tend to be much more fervent than their PC counterparts.

"But I hate the idea of Macs reduced to Photoshop boxes, and besides,
I know quite a buch of sysadmins or researchers who love Jaguar and use it professionally."

I didn't say I didn't either. But whereas you trash "my experience", this is merely your "experience" as well. And that's only numbers, not percents.

"Besides, if I remember correctly, when G4 processors were introduced, they were
almost considered as a threat as they delivered to the end user
enough processing power to drive missiles."

You do recall correctly. Now please point us to anyone who actually *is* using Macs to point missles

"You'd be amazed to know how Macs impacted the scientific community.
And you'd be amazed at knowing how many scientifics use and consider Macs
as gold."

I'm quite aware of all of the above. However, I still think that *more* people use them for the things I mentioned previously than any of the things you mention. I challenge you to prove (Though granted, I've not come up with any numbers to support my side either) that more people use Macs to run servers than other stuff.

"That's how I see them: exceptional machines, not multimedia boxes."

Once again, you warp everything I say. They are *indeed* great machines, I've always preferred them to anything else (despite trying a couple other OS's..) and I'd be willing to bet I always will. I'd be one of the last to say that I *only* use my Mac for that.

"And you'd still tell me they were geared for running Photoshop"

Another warp. I'd actually bet that Windows runs PS just as well as on Mac. But that is only a single piece of software in very large sea.

"... kind of a pointless debate,"

Then stop debating
(edit for typos)

Back to laughing at stupid quotes:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Graphics work, Mac the rest PC.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Few things bother me more than, irrational assumptions, and being misquoted, by those with the mentality of a Pygmy.

The statement was: First determine PURPOSE then CHOICE, graphices work, Mac the rest PC.

The individual that started this thread and asked, which was best, since he plans on purchasing a system, needs to first determine the purpose for which he plans to use it.

I used Occum's Razor and simplified it down to purpose: Graphics work? or anything else PC?

If he plans on doing any Desktop Publishing, and intense Graphics work, then look at the Mac, and that's not to say the Mac is incapable of much more.

If he wants a General use computer, then look at PC's, of which their are plenty to chose from; from intense game machines, to specific use machines, and OS is not the issue.

PURPOSE which requires THOUGHT, in a rational, logical, reality based manner is the issue.

You don't extol the virtues of either Mac or PC, like you have a Motorola Chip for a brain, or an Intel Chip in place.

Rational persuasion, will get you further, than flapping your lips, with a spear in your hand, and a bone in your nose, without even the mentality to quote correctly.

What does "InI" stand for anyway? Institute of National Idiots?

Yannah, learn to do your own research, after you determine the purpose for which you want something, then make YOUR OWN choice. In another world and time, you may have gotten rational points which would have helped you make a good choice. Looking at this thread, those days are gone. My regrets!

Ini - Calm down man! Theres absolutely no reason to take 5 years off your life going nuts over this debate. I don't even imagine its Yannah's choice to even make. Isn't she like 14 years old? She probably has very little say in what her family buys.
