Some of you may have read in a recent post my bemoaning the loss of a 40gig drive and 10 years or so worth of data. Thanks to heavy meds I haven't yet started smashing my head against the wall. Once the meds wear off however I will not be held responsible for my actions. =)

Anyway.... with a new HD AND cd burner in hand I'm in the process of rebuilding the system and I've decided to take my time, doing a bit of research 'here' and elsewhere. OS's how to tweak them etc.... In my travels I ran across this site.
http://www.arstechnica.com

And I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It's quite a comprehensive site and the forums are not unlike some here. And like here, there are some people who really know their stuff. It's well worth the visit imo.The 'About' page is actually about what they're about. =)

I've decided to go with win2k pro for the OS and looking for tweaks from there I arrived here.

Below are some other tips to improve your page file performance &/or stability.

Try to avoid having a Page file on the same drive as the system files. This only applies to those with multiple hard drives available for use.

Avoid putting the Page File on a fault-tolerant drive, such as a mirrored or RAID5 volume. Page file(s) don't need fault-tolerance, & some fault-tolerant systems suffer from slow data writes because they write data to multiple locations.

Don't place the Page File on different partitions on the same disk drive. Placing the Page file on a separate partition increases access time & head movement. NOTE – This is not the same as placing it on separate hard drives. If you have multiple hard drives try either placing the Page file on the other hard drive, or split evenly between both hard drives, as shown below.

If any of you know of similar sites not listed in our FAQ... I'd appreciate it if you passed them on.

helpful to some... hopefully.

thnx

Oh... and don't forget to backup! <lol>

I've always found Tweak 3d a good resource, check it out.
