Dracusis Maniac (V) Inmate From: Brisbane, Australia Insane since: Apr 2001	posted 07-27-2003 23:22 I recently installed QuickZip as I was growing tired of the WinZip 8 nag screen, but I decided I didn't really like it so I've uninstalled it but it's left behind a bunch of shell extentions (commands in the right click context menu). Anyways, is there any way I can manually remove these as I've tried re-installing and un-installing the QuickZip to no avail. Any help sould be greatly appreciated.

Just go to run and type in "regedit," and do searches for the phrase that comes up in the right click (I forgot exactly where). You should find it. Somewhere. viol Maniac (V) Inmate From: Charles River Insane since: May 2002	posted 07-28-2003 00:18 The previous message says it all but you may try to look at the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key, the first one that shows up in Regedit, then open the star * sub-key, then you'll find OpenWithList and shellex (Shell Extensions). It's a direct way to find the bastard and, if it doesn't work, try the other mentioned approach. This is WinXP's tip but it should work with other recent Windows'es.

And the usual warnings about tinkering with the registry apply. jv16 PowerTools, which I see has just gone from freeware to demoware, has nice tools for all sorts of registry stuff and is the only automated registry cleaner I've used that both works and doesn't trash the machine. Your mileage may vary. X-Setup is primarily a registry settings tweaker, but it gets at some of the context menu stuff. It also lets you add your own stuff to the context menus. HTH!
