Try running ad-aware if you have not yet done so...
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

then look into an anti-viri bit of software such as Norton.

This is not a virus but a joke program written with Delphi.

Joke.Win32.Russ advertises a 3D action computer game called "VIRUS". It does this in a very strange manner - imitating all folders deletion from a hard disk. This is why it is detected - to prevent shocking of computer users.

When the program is executed it opens a small window with a yellow smiling face icon and a message:

Please Wait. Initializing...

Then the Explorer window is opened viewing Windows 95 root folder. Immediately the 'Confirm Folder Delete' dialog is showed asking:

Are you sure you want to delete 'Win95' folder
and all its contents ?

There's no way the "No" button can be pressed as mouse cursor evades it. After several seconds the joke imitates deletion of Windows 95 folder and then all the rest folders on drive C: are "deleted".

In the end the joke opens the 'Shutdows Windows' dialog with grayed 'No' button, 'Restart the computer?' and 'Close and log as a different user?' options. Shortly after that the computer is 'restarted', the screen goes blank.

After a few seconds the following message is printed in big green letters one by one:

Thank god this is only a game...

Finally a new 3-D computer game advertisment is shown as two pictures containing its description and distributors addresses. After pressing a key the joke passes control to the system.

Even though it is a game, can it do any harm to the computer?

This is a joke program, not virus or trojan, but it displays too scaring messages that can really fright a user. When this program starts, it displays a standard message windows with the text:

code:
Please Wait. Initialising...

In few time it displays the dialog box with the text in it:
Confirm Folder Delete
Are you sure you want to delete the folder [Windows] and all its contents ?
[Yes] [No]

where [Windows] is directory name where Windows is installed. Not depending on an user's reaction, and ever if there is no key pressed, the program then displays the standard Explorer and FileDeleting windows and emulates files and folders deletion process. When there are no files "left", it displays the standard Windows shut-down menu with disabled (gray) [No] button:

code:
Shut Down Windows
Windows has detected there is no system software on your computer

(*) Shut down the computer?
( ) Restart the computer?
( ) Close all programs and log on as a different user?

[Yes] [No] [Cancel]

It then displays the message:

code:
Thank god this is only a game...

The detection for this joke program was added to AVP database after several requests from AVP users.

I think you're all overreacting.

A year ago, when I got this, NAV didn't even flag it as a virus, which is why I decided to take a chance and run it.

It's a joke. It's an advertisement for a video game. It does absolutely no harm to your computer.

In fact, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between this fake app and a legitimate Windows app. The colors are off. The folders it pretends to "delete" don't even correspond to the actual folders. It fakes the Win98 shutdown dialog... when I'm using Win2000.
