Hello,

Been using digital hand watch all my life, recently I got a non-digital watch as a present.
It can display day of month in addition to showing time.

Now I am puzzeled, how the hell could it tell whether this month is 31, 30, 29, 28 given that it doesn't take a month parameter.

Or every end of month I have to adjust days accordingly?

edit: what do i call the non-digital hand watch as one word? analog hand watch?

Elias

You have to adjust date manually at the end of each month...

"Wristwatch" would be a good start. But you'd probably still have to use "analog," though, to differentiate from the digital kind.

Although, that "feature" of analog wristwatches can be annoying, I really wouldn't mind having one of those cool SECTOR sport watches, heh... :-)

I always try to get hybrid watch.
Analog hands with digital display that can show time, date or a stop watch.
They can be real hard to find sometimes.

WJ: what do you mean "hybrid" watches can be hard to find? i looked around my local target store for 5 mins and found a stylish watch with analog hands, and a digital display. it has tons of features and junk too.

Kevin, I live under a very big rock. I seriously can't remember the last time I was in public. Heh.
The last time I went looking for a hybrid watch, I had to go to four different stores in the Lansing Mall. Then again, that was some years ago. I've heard rumours that some watches even have a calculator built in.

I agree with Kevin, even in my country almost any store that sells watches got a variety including those in question.

lol, Nice one!
Have you heard of watches that got a remote control too?

I just solve all those problems by just not having a watch. And when i do, it's just the free send-away from my cereal box.

See if you don't have a watch no one can really be mad at you for being a little late. It's much less stessful on myself as well.

And come on, how long are any of us away from our computers that have their own built-in clocks/calendars/appointment books? Speaking of that i found a really cool free calendar program i like called rainlendar. Check it out.

I recently got a nice Rolex as a gift so I replaced my trusty old G-Shock although I only wear it when I don't expect to ding it, and I noticed that it takes me a few extra seconds to actually figure out the time after using a digital for most of my life.

Although I do notice that I've stopped caring the exact time and usually settle for something along the lines of "about quarter past three".

I notice that too, cant tell the time on a watch with hands. I recently snapped the strap on my digital so I'm down to using my analog which doesn't have any numbers.

I think you can get a wrist sundial now so it should always be accurate (its even luminous so you can tell the time in the dark )

Personally, I have no resentment what-so-ever concerning the resetting of my watch at the end of the month.

It's the small things in life which serve to remind me that no matter how clever things become, they still exist to facilitate our lives, and not the other way around.

I got the joke wes. heh

And as far as what to call it... "analog watch" about covers it.

I am still looking for a fully digital watch that is just one round ccd that can emulate either digital or analog, or anything in-between.

Eyezaer: I've seen a watch do that before, but I mean whats the point ? Remember thinkin it was stupid, was a cheapo watch too nothing fancy and about 6yrs ago.
Wes: I too make calls on my watch. I dont wear a wristwatch because I used to always take em off while typing and have it in my pocket, my 3510 has a nice screensaver which is simply a clock, lcd numbers or hands. (think it was just Yannah who didnt get it btw)

Morph, I got ur joke too but didnt think it was that funny, sorry man :P

.. oh yea, it takes me about a minute to figure out them damn analog dealies, I'm too used to digital, rare is the time I'm somewhere without there being a digital about.

After wearing nothing but digitals for 20 years, (remember LED watches?) I became tired of the gizmos, difficult-to-push buttons, dead batteries and all that crap.

Back in '96 I bought a brand new Citizen analog self-winding. Yep, no electronics inside, just real machinery--a mainspring powering a 21-jewel movement. Keeps great time, never needs a battery, looks nice on my wrist and even goes tick-tick-tick.

I relay on a couple off things to keep track off time.
-Churchclocks (easy to look at, but to heavy to carry around).
-My cell phone (not that trusty but good enough).
-Other people on the street (always nice to keep contact).
-My girlfriend (handy she already nows our collective agenda..)
-When the network will be ready the time-server system (fun to play with heh).

I dumped a watch long a go. They always start to itch after a while and then i need to do them off which ends up in me loosing the watch. So i don't like them and i am just not born to use a wristwatch. And the time for the old fashioned pocket watch has long past.

And yes my life is simple enough and thus i don't need a agenda only the kitchen calendar.
And yes my hair is almost half a meter down my ears.
And no i'm not an hippy.

I only wear my watch when I'm at work... it's the only time I might absolutely have to know what time it is at any given moment, and I might not always be standing in a room with a clock...

But I've always gone for a plain, analog watch with a big face and good sized numbers... Though I must admit, I'm always a little screwed up the first day or 2 of each month until I figure out what I forgot to do!

I've never considered myself a flashy person, all my watches are basic black and white... Except the one my husband's mom got him from the Marlboro catalogue... The face itself is black and white, but the band, for some reason is army green canvas and brown leather... go figure... One day, when I'm feeling frisky, I'll change the band to something more appropriate...

When I'm not at work, I don't usually care what time it is...

My first watch was a regular one, the one you have to wind, and not digital at all. Back in the early 70's, there were no digital watch that I can remember. Today, I use a Rolex I bought in Geneve in 1988. It's not all gold but it is gold plated, I mean, only the surface of it is gold. I love this watch. You don't have to wind it, it's self-winding, but see, 14+ years with it and I never had to change the battery!
It does have this annoying 28-29-30-31 issue that's really not annoying once you get used to it - August was a good month - and it's a beautiful clock. No calculator, no phone cell, no camera, no fuss, just the time and the day. Do I need more than that?
Funny thing is that my wife, eight years younger than me, didn't know how to read the hours from an analog watch. I had to teach her.
