Heya. I guess not many people around the asylum know me very well, but here's a small chance to learn a few more things, whether you want to, or not. Well, okay, if you don't, just click the back button.

Also, I'm not entirely sure this should be in the Ozone section (as opposed to the 3d modelling one instead?) but it doesn't seem like there is a suitable place to put my plea, so I'll consider it "miscellaneous".

For those who decided to read ahead:
It's that time in my life, when I'm looking around at all the college options I have available to me, and get ready to apply. Up until now, I've primarily been looking towards places that I could do my previously two favorite subjects, Computer Programming, and Music Theory/Composition. So I was looking at places like Carnegie Mellon, U of Rochester... (Those were my two favorites out of all of the ones I visited..)

However, future consideration has led me to consider an alternate career path. That of the 3d modeller/animator/designer (What's the best word to describe them?) (computer graphics playing a key role I would imagine), or that of the film-maker. Or both, if I could somehow meld the two worlds.

Unfortunately.. It's getting pretty late in the time I have to search for and apply to colleges, I'm imagining I could visit 2-4 more, weather and school willing. Now the begging request:

Do any of you know of some decent->top-notch range colleges that are in the Northeast of the U.S. that specialize in people with the interests outlined above, that you could recommend me to look towards? I don't really know where to start, because it seems to be a whole new realm. I've been using the Princeton Review's college searchey-thingy for a bit, but they don't seem to outline any colleges that are in this realm.

I would appreciate this a lot, if anyone would recommend one or two. (I assure you, all I need is a few names. Just a place to start, I can do all other research on my own, I hope )

Thanks in advance.

What about RIT's School of Film and Animation? And you'd still be able to take a course or two at UR'sEastman School of Music.

As for the correct term for a 3D modeller/animator/designer, you're looking at a CG (computer graphics) Artist there. For learning a 3D program well enoguh ot be able to design, model, texture, rig and animate characters you may want to try a specialty school, like the Renneisance Centre, which you can find a link to through http://www.3DBuzz.com (a site the school runs).

Hm, I wasn't aware that RIT had a thing going with U of R/Eastman.
Originally, I didn't like my tour of RIT because it seemed like they were a fair distance below my "educational level" (average SAT score something like 1100-1200... and that RIT wasn't conducive to seperate studies at once. (e.g. Film and 3d at the same time, even as a major/minor thing.)

I'll give them some more thought though. Hm.

You always have Cornell U right around the corner- not sure about their CG cirriculum. NYC art schools are a short 4-5 hour bus ride. School of Visual Arts, Parsons, Cooper Union. I took continuing education classes at SVA- great instructors and you'd be right in manhattan. Thats puttinig yourself 100% into art- not just minoring while majoring in something else more main stream- math, science, etc.

Good luck.
