Heh... you'll have a hard time getting a pleasant review of a WYSIWYG editor from the Ozone crowd, mas.

Hmm... as long as we're on the topic, can anyone recommend a freeware or open-source HTML editor that plays nicely with embedded PHP, JSP, ASP(.NET) and whatnot, with separate color-coding and so forth? My HomeSite installation exploded, and it was getting about time to upgrade anyway.

I know tons of great code editors, but not many that can deal with two completely different types of code in the same document. My ideal would be one that automatically applies Java-style formatting, indentation, and bracket matching to PHP blocks as I type, like the godly JEdit does.

I guess I said "freeware," but if it does the embedded-code thing AND the auto-formatting thing AND HTML validation and whatnot, I'd pay.

Hey, I got HTML-kit, and I've been using it for a week now (including to build a PHP application), and I must say I like it very much. Anyone looking for a good HTML/PHP/etc code editor (and doesn't already have a fave) should check it out. It does quite a few things better than HomeSite, and a few worse (for instance, it doesn't color-code PHP stashed away in an HTML attribute, like <a href="<?php echo $blah ?>"> ), but it's free and absolutely stuffed with features. Almost an intimidating number of features, in fact... that Preferences screen is like MS Word's! Unlike MS Word, however, everything in HTML-kit is directly relevant to the program's duties, so I can't complain.

mas, no opinion at all on GoLive...

Perfect Thunder, I'm almost soley using a freeware IDE for PHP/HTML/JavaScript. nowadays.
I found an IDE for PHP that actually supports step in step out, breakpoints debugging, function insight, F1 opens help, javadoc compliant comments and function syntax shows up when you hover over a function, project handling... and more... and it's free...

What? what's that? where?
Oh, silly me http://www.maguma.com/en/lightdownload.html

Three packages are available, I choose the middle one, IDE, debugger, PHP, HTML chm-files but no webserver/php (got that). A bit tricky to set up the debugger, but holler and I'll help if needed.

A screenshot from me can be found in my archives: http://www.dmsproject.com/archive.php
Archive "images" Category "Misc"

I don't know how it works with ASP/.NET/Java, it has options to handle C++, Pascal, CSS, HTL, PHP and SQL, I guess you'll have to try your self for other things.
Me likes it
/Dan

Wait. GoLive is the Adobe equivalent of DW, huh?

In that case... bleah.
