As those of you who ever visit the 3D Forum may or may not know, I'm currently undertaking a course of study in 3D Studio MAX 5. Once of the latest assignments I have recieved is it model, texture light and animate as realistically as possibly a pinball machine. The theme is left up to the student, and as such I have decided to try to do Asylum Pinball. I'm fresh outta ideas for goals that our 'player' can reach though...obstacles to get past and things like that. So I turn to you, my fellow asylumites...what would you want to see in Asylum Pinball? |

Interesting. The first thing I would do is hit the local arcade. I think the most important thing to look for is the placement of the elements/obstacles. So, to begin with, just try to think element with out the theme. Know what I mean? Once you decide on a few, start sketching with an asylum theme. |

the 'local arcade' is a bad term for me...becuase the 'local arcade' is 60 Kms away |

I can't remember 'who'... but someone stopped in the PS forum a few times with at least one pinball game he had a hand in developing...so maybe some help will come out from the shadows. |

Emps: No not that one.... this guy was looking for help with his graphics a few times and then later came back with a downloadable demo. I'm pretty sure it was a formula one pinball game. |

Oh no! Someone's hit the breakers! All the cells have opened and the lights have gone out! Multiple balls scatter across the playing surface. How long can you keep them from heading out the front door?! |

Just so people understand fully...I'm not developing a game here...yet. This is an assignment to animate a pinball table, and have your 'player' get through it or whatever...I'm looking at about a 6-10 minute animation here... |

you could have a point when all the 'inmates' (extra balls) come rolling out of their cells and you have to juggle all the additional balls |

Ooh, and a "Trackball Artistry" timed mode, where the pinball represents DG's trackball and every ramp you hit fills in part of a painting on the LED. I mean, if it's about the Asylum as a whole, not just the insanity metaphor... DarkGarden and his Trackball o' Doom are pure examples of what makes the Asylum great. |

You could have the table theme be trying to achieve the ultimate goal (multi-ball) where you can"Lose your Marbles" Use the drop target/flags to increase the voltage on the shock treatments (multiplier), I like the pills idea, you could have a tiered score structure where the more you get inside the "Box" the more points things you hit are worth (goes along with mahjqa's illnesses). I really like the DocOzone idea. if each letter was achieved by completing a mini-game/task then it would really be a table that would hold your attention. It requires a few more mini-game ideas, above and beyond the normal target kind of stuff. one of them could be a collect the spiders (to eat them) kind of a thing, one spider per ramp or whatever. Sound like a cool idea... now I need to load all my pinball games again. LOL |
