Yes...it's mid-november in Australia, and what does that mean?

November thunderstorms!

Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen, and was today's one ever a beauty. Short as always, but spectacular. The rain was phemonenal. I live in a valley, and when the rain came every storm water drain flooded, and my house's gutters overflowed. There was a solid sheet of water coming down all 4 sides of my house, and my front-yard flooded quick as anything. I had water coming in my front door within 10 minutes, and that's when I called out the towel brigade. It's always fun to deal with a minor flood by one's self, but try one that was trying it's damdest to become a major flood.

Drivers down my street lost their heads and nearly their lives in today's storms. My street turned into a brown river as al lthe dried dirt was pulled up out of the grains by the flooding and sent washing down the street. Completly covered, get the picture? One driver came around the corner far too fast, and went sideways up my road, facing me. And I mean literally facing me. Funniest thing I've seen in a long time, and it was his own stupid fault too. He finally stopped, turned around to face the correct way again and continued driving. He tried to take off too hard and spun out before he could get going (I mean right out, did a 360).

Fun, fun, fun. Well if you'll excuse me ladies and gentlemen I must get back to mopping out my house's entryway.

Sounds like a blast. We get our fair share of rain and lightning storms here in November. But nothing quite that bad. Good luck in drying everything out.

Something that you guys probably haven't seen enough of in West Texas... and something that the Southeast US has seen entirely too much of this year! My sympathies regarding the lack of sunlight in your area Skaarjj, but I'm glad to hear you're making the best of it! Always fun to watch idiot drivers in severe weather - as long as no one gets too badly hurt!

Don't feel sorry about the lack of sunlight bodhi...for a country that's trying to recor from a drought, we're enjoying every bit of rain we can get...and boy, did we get it yesterday. The Melbourne water catchments before the rain had been at 51.2%...after the rain they were at 58.9%...a jump of over 7% in one day? that's amazing to us...we need a few more storms like that one. It's been described as a mini-typhoon.

Skaarjj - NC just suffered a nasty drought last year, I sympathize completely. I think by August of last year, we were on tight water use restrictions, and they kept telling us that our resevoirs only had about 4-7 days of water in them...

However, this year, we've had record breaking rainfall! The year's not over, and right now our yearly rainfall is over 63 inches. I believe they said that the last record for rainfall was in 1901 at 50-some inches. Something like that anyway. So I'm feeling like lots of sunshine is a good thing right now.

But I do remember blessing the rainstorms this spring... and trying to remember that it doesn't always come when you need it...

Yes that was a MASSIVE MORNING. I had just woken up from dreaming about Nazi's taking over the world, in particular Hawaii to hear the thunder outside my room. I was rather disorientated as the weather was the same in my dream, so it was like being awake in a dream if you know what i mean. My mate came around with computer problems wanting to make a bootable disk for Win XP Pro but I had to turn the comp off due to what seemed like malevolent thunderstorms.

Was great fun eating rice bubbles though under the storm during monsoonal downpours and rip roaring thunder crackles and blasts of sheet lightning! :d Not to mention watching the backyard flood.

God damn, I love storms!!

Bugger me, Maruman, when did you pop back up again??? (dis be Drac btw)...

Anyways, Queensland is dead dry at the moment. They were doing a lot of back burning a month ago round my part which can only be a good thing as I can count the number of rainy days I've seen this year on my fingers.

I'm kinda missing the summer storms though. I miss kicking back on the veranda putting away a few beers as I watch the storms roll in. All I currently got is the heat. Although, mangos will be affordable soon, be time to pull the vodka out of the cupboard and re-acquaint myself with the blender. Oh yeah.

Edit: Only gonna say this once for fear of death in case anyone is watching over my shoulder. AFL kicks arse over any form of Rugby, League or Union (which is a lot coming from a Queenslander). Not that I can really attest to being a footy bloke of any kind sitting in front of a computer at 3:30 am wearing an x-files shirt (not by choice, it's the only clean one I have I swear) -- I feel like such a cliché.

You have a X Files T-Shirt? Me too!

Reminds me of how I walked into a Maccas (McDonald's) the other night wearing tattered shorts, an x files t-shirt, barefeet, long hair that was tied back, and a beard amongst all these metrosexual looking, well-groomed, cliched young Yr. 11\12 students who had just recently broken up. Bloody surfie and skatie try-hards. Rather interesting experience.
