Hello,

How are all of you today?

I was wondering if there might be room for another guru 'wannabe' in this wonderous forum?

I use PS7 and have been using Photoshop since PS5... (granted, that has only been a few years.)
That being said, I am continually amazed by how much I do not know about Photoshop. There are so very many ways to do so many different things!

I also just enjoy the heck out of a challenge.

Hey. [insert "hoo-hah's and woop-woop's here]

Unfortunately there is no more room for "guru wannabes" here. Got too many as is.
But if you're inclined to be someone who's not a complete dipshit... come on in.
Help out.. get helped... n' stuff.

Awwwww...
*hangs head*
Doesn't everyone want to be a guru someday?

I am willing to help out however I can, I am also willing to ask for help.
(and hopefully my mother taught me enough manners)

Do you think it could work Michael?

Nice to meet you by the way.

No, I don't want to be a guru.... so we can rule out the "everyone" theory.
If your mother didn't teach you manners, I'm sure we will. =D

So this could work out. Maybe.
Let's have it...
How'd you stumble upon this place?
How many hours a day do you waste with PS?
What's your thing... photo manips, painting, re-touching...lalala?
Web stuff part of your job... or hobby/obssessionish?

...and just because I'm asking all these questions, don't be fooled into thinking I care.

Hi, welcome.

Well the learning never realy stops, I've worked with Photoshop since around 1988 when Photoshop was first introduced. It was called ImagePro then. and was packaged with a Barney Scan. We test it early on, but didn't put it into production until version 2.5. Even starting that early, you never stop finding new ways of doing thing and new uses even for filters and the basic tools. For instance I bet there are at least 20 different ways to sharpen an image and at least 5 with out using any of the sharping or USM filters.

If you haven't already, you should check out the Guru's Network for lots of excellent tuturials. See the quick link below.

K
Found Asylum via google a few days ago. (A happy accident)

Hours a day wrapped up in PS?
Lately, not enough.
I have found myself sneaking in that 4th hour in 15 minute increments. As the solutions to whatever problem I am faced with (digitally), surfaces I manage to try them out between work, family and sleep.

I started out with manipulating photos and still love to play in that area, but got caught up in retouching old family photos about a year ago. Love them both.

I like to take photos and I enjoy eclectic photography, (Polaroid transfers etc).
I have been known to dabble in charcoal, watercolors and oils. (Better in charcoal than oils, and would rather scan my artwork and touch it up than try to start it all from scratch digitally).

I know basic HTML, have dabbled in CSS and Javascript, studied web in school, but am more graphicly inclined.

It's obsession right now as I haven't landed a job in the field as of yet. (Got a piece of paper in May, but it is hubby's turn to go to school so I am 'the bringer home of the bacon' and won't give up the good paying job until the time is right.)

Hope that covers it...
Oh and Michael?
you know you care! jk

Lacuna,
Thank you! FAQ's are always a good place to start on a forum.

JstuartJ,
Isn't that a wonderful place! I haven't posted there but I did stumble across a few references here while in lurking mode and was impressed by the tutorials and the philosophy. Thank you.

Found the asylum via google... mmm hmmm... typical story. However...
what were you searching for?
("I don't remember" and variations thereof are unacceptable answers)

And as an unwritten rule.... list us 5 urls of sites you visit everyday.

.. it's probably in your best interest to steer clear of Lacuna.... she's a loose cannon.

Hi sparks and welcome.
Well the good news is you have found this place. The Asylum has taught me nearly everything I know about Photoshop, and plenty of other things too.
Here is a link to the Reception Room Have a look around there as well. In your meandering from link to link you may find one or two broken, but there are plenty that are not. The broken links may just be temporary while reconstruction takes place.
Also if you have specific questions to ask about an image you are working on, try posting up or linking to the image, so you may be better assisted.
And don't forget... whatevere you do, never, never,,,lose your sense of humour

~sigh~ I can't believe Micahel has escaped from his cage again. Can we get some orderlies with electro-shock batons along to get the restraints on him so we can put him back again.

Welcome to all the various newbies (in this thread, others and those still lurking) - as tao has said drop by the Reception Room for induction and have a nose through the FAQ and don't be afraid to post your questions (just read the FAQ on asking questions first ).

Hello again,

Taobaybee,
The Reception Room aka FAQ's have facinated me for a few days now... Such an unconventional (albeit effective) way to present Do's and Don'ts etc. I have had fun exploring it. (Oh and I hear ya on the humor tip!)

Emperor,
Please go easy on Michael... (unless he enjoys pain that is) He is fun to converse with. Thanks for the welcome too.

Eyerazer, CPrompt, CRO8 and Unknown Comic,
Thanks for the welcome.

I look forward to future dialog.
