There is so much open space between the snake and the sword.... The snake needs to be wrapped around it. It needs to be like spiraling up like a cork screw.

And well, with the sword, all I see is the blade. If it's a snake & sword you need to add that handle in some time .

Good concept, nice start.. Now lets see you work some more on it.

To be quite honest, it looks more like a crochet needle with a piece of yarn on it.

You need *tons* more detail and definition to bring this up tp par....

Lg88. . .here are a few tips to make that snake look more realistic.
First, download this texture.
Open it in PS, go to Edit>Define Pattern and name it whatever you want, I recommend "Snake Skin".
Now , make a new layer above your base layer and name it "skin". Make a selection around your entire snake, then with the new layer highlighted, go to your paintbucket tool and fill the selection with your new snake skin pattern. With the selection still loaded, go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise and do something about 3%, but if you think it's too much you can tone it down a bit. Grab your Dodge/Burn tool and get to work shading the edges of the snake and hightlighting it in the middle. Once you get a nice 3-d looking snake, it's time to add some color. With the selection still loaded, create a new layer above "skin" and name it "color". On the "color" layer, make your foregroun color brown and background color green, then go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Then Filter>Render>Difference clouds. Now set your color layer to either multiply, overlay, hard light, or luminosity. Cntrl+d to deselect, Fanny's your Aunt;Robert's your uncle, and you have yourself a snake. I'm gonna make a snake following the previous instructions and post it, just to see if it works.

Personally, I thought it was quite a helpful tip. Your example snake looked quite nice, and you told him just how to do it.
