Topic awaiting preservation: Save history (Page 1 of 1)

Hi all,

Is it possible to save the history of an image together with the image? I hate it when I flatten an image and press save a few minutes later... 4 hours of work lost. It would be nice if photoshop didn't drop the history of an image when you press save.

mmm... this aint what you really want to hear, but i NEVER evver evvver evvvver flatten an image. ever. never.

lets just say, I have been burned.

you can save copies at different stages, but i think saving the history would grossly inflate the psd file size.

I never flatten an image without doing a save-as first, and usually checking to make sure the extra copy opens correctly.

I always keep copies... One of the original work with ALL the layers, and one of the flattened image. Save As... and then flattened.

Aren't snap shots saved? You might try that, there's an icon at the bottom of the history palette.

Only way I know of to save history is to screen cap it and drag it into the doc as a layer.
There`s also that neat annotation thingy. Take notes.

Corel has this Corel Version thingy, which lets you restore previous versions of files.

Still, wolfen method is much better. Its what i often do as well.

But since I'm in a good mood, and this thread isn't on the eyeball-design forums, I'll tell you.

CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+N = Create new layer
CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+E = Creates a "flattened" image in the active layer. So it merges all your layers into the new layer, while keeping your layer structure.

Nifty if you ever need a flattened copy. Just set an action to make a new layer, copy-merge, and export to a new PSD.

Minor point : CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E merges visible layers.

*grin* Good point, DB. I tend to forget hidden layers even exist.
