So this is the Photoshop 8 everyone's talking about? Why'd they rename it? And what does "cs" stand for?

Now...now inmates, no need to start fighting.... there is a room for this..... Just down the hall way there is a room called "The big smack 'n' fish? go in there........
Anyway nice of adobe to release new stuff (PS, illy, indesign....hhhmmm goodness)..... been looking over the new stuff and looks nice. But really I think the updates for photoshop are about workflow and better performance, with some add long over due features like Customisable keyboard shortcuts, Comprehensive 16-bit support, Integrated digital camera raw file support, ect.
So upgrade or not?, that?s the question.... if ya got PS7 = no, any thing lower I would say yes, just because of all the time saving features which has been added over the versions. Lets wait till a demo comes out?. Then it might be worth it? or not.
But if Mr adobe knocked on my door and gave me a free* copy of ps, I wouldn't say no..... ?..
*Smacks everyone with a big fish.... and runs away.... hahaha*

Hmmm... they're taking the long way around integrating Illustrator and Photoshop into the one program.
Seems nice though.

prawnstar69: Thats the first thing I thought of it was when I saw it too
I work its CS this , CS that, OMG the new CS patch, FS CS etc.. not for long tho, were not upgrading to 1.6 because of Steam, and dropping from 100fps 800x600 to 20fps 640x480
anyhwho, the only thing I think I'd use in the new version is the text on path and maybe the shadow/highlight adjuster.
Hate the way its CS no 8, that kinda thing really annoys me, hated it since pentium(at least changing from 586 to pentium was for a reason).

Are there any people here who've 'tested' it yet? Pro's? Con's? Are all the nifty things (like the filter menu) optional? (Do they have an 'off' switch?) System specs? Performance?

Woohoo! Got my Adobe box. Won't be able to play much till tomorrow though..
More stuff under adjustments.. another goody under render.. It looks amazingly the same for a full version upgrade. The tools are even where they belong. Go figger.

Hmmm, there is some stuff that has already been done in photopaint since years. Customizing workspace being one of my most common, same goes for color replacement. Photopaint is still buggy in stroking a path, and lacky on layer settings, like a border and stuff. Well, at least on v9.

I just attended a "Driven by Design" tour, conference, convention thingy in Salt Lake City. It was put on by Apple and featured Adobe, Quark, Greytag Macbeth, Extensis, and HP as the participants. Since I am only a passive Mac user tight now(I only use it when I have to, like at school). I kind of glazed over the demos and info on OSX Panther version but very much enjoyed the seminar demos of Creative Suite by Adobe as well as Quark 6 even though I am not to fond of Quark.
It appears that the applications are much more closely integrated but are still separate apps. Things like color matching carry across all the adobe apps you would be using. Photomerge in PS was pretty cool. Text on path was just a nice bonus. Improved the file browser There is more that I know I am just not remembering off the top of my head.
Illustrator now can extrude shapes in 3d objects and revolve 2d shapes into 3d objects like vases and such. You can then use symbols to paint or texture the sides of the objects. It was pretty cool.
Indesign showed some cool features such as a high res preview that would let you jump back to PS to fix a flaw in your image and update back to Indesign kind of like PS and Imageready work together. You could also grab a low res image and throw in your document and as you resize it larger you get a really crappy image then it will automatically go back in and recalculate and automatically increase the resolution so it looks good in your doc. I duno how else to explain it maybe you had to see it but it was pretty cool.
I am pretty impressed with it as a whole. I wanted to mug the guy that won the giveaway for the entire Creative Suite.
They were running everything on Mac G5s and they were pretty cool too, and fast.

Worth getting when? When you have 6? I have 7, and I could've stayed with six, as the improvements weren't the ones I use daily.

It kinda depends on what you're going to do most with it. This is a really big upgrade for photogs (esp the digital variety) but honestly there's not really a whole lot for the webby stuff.. a few new filters, text on a path, blurring to a d-map (had to mention that for wj), another blend mode, some IR tweakage..
I have a folder with 10 or 12 screen caps. I've been meaning to put some thoughts together but really haven't had a lot of time. If there's any interest I'll make a little bigger priority..
