Preserved Topic: I have a A SLOW PS7 (Page 1 of 1)

ANyone got any ideas? I have a legitimate copy of PS7 and when it comes to searching for Fonts on start up it lags the whole computer. Also when I hit the blending options, that too takes forever to pop up. Any ideas??

I have absolutley no ideas...but I do have one thing to say...on the subject of your sig:

Wow...that thing is:

1. Huge
2. Red (very red)
3. Destroying my eyes
4. Ugly as sin; and
5. Contains questionable content (reffering specifcally to the nekkid female in it...a debatable subject about what should be allow...what forms the thin line between 'art' and 'pornography').

Fine. Gotta love censorship. The girl is gone from it. Other than that, it is MY sig. Not everyones sig is beautiful. I've seen plenty of ugly and useless ones around here. I asked for help, not to be critisized. So please keep you opinions to yourself. Not looking for C&C, just Tech help. Before I go to Adobe directly. Thought I would post here.

ha...that's one thing you've got ot learn around here...if osmeone has an opinion, they express it. I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way, but I don't mince words. If I think it's big red and ugly, I'll say that it's big red and ugly. Don't like it? No one's maknig you stay. Either way, we are here to help, and that's what we try to do most of the time. Oh, and don't act like I'm censoring you now, lke it's something i've jsut come up with cause I'm uptight about such things...you agreed to not do things lilke that when you first signed up here. It amazes me how many people don't read such agreements before they sign them.

Anywho, if yer runnin a slow box and have little ram that could be your problem. Close down everythin before running Photoshop. This program sucks memory like a kid eating candy. If you got a bazillion TSR's runnin, close 'em down too, albeit the essential ones like virus scanners.

Go into task manager, Processes Tab, right click Photoshop.exe and set the priority higher... Right click my computer, hit Advanced and go for Preformance Options, then tweak your virtual memory.

What are your computer's stats and whats running in the background?

Another thing... Uninstall some of your unused fonts if they take up alot of memory. Back them up into a CD or something.
Also: Why do we need to know that you have a legetimate copy of Photoshop? It raises questions.]

What OS are you running?

What's your processor speed?

How much RAM?

How many fonts do you have exactly?

Are you running anything else while doing this (or are things running in the background that don't need to be)?

Urmmmmmmmm can we see the naked lady?

also how many plugins do you have? They take a while to load if you have a bunch.

Only reason I put Legitimate Copy, is because I've read about some of the people in here MAYBe not having one. Just wanted to clear the air before it came up. Anyhow:

I just reinstalled Windows ME, I had purchased XP, but I think it sucks, so I went back to ME.
I had the same Photoshop Install I did before the switch, and now it lags. Didnt before. I used to comment that it was faster Rendering than my Mac at work. But now it doesnt.
And no you cant see the naked lady, too offensive.
And another thing, normally I only have the basics running in the background, whereas before I had multiple progs running and no lag.
As for fonts, I only have 180 installed. I uninstall the ones I dont use or have no more use for and replace them with new ones. I use a free FONT manager called FONT BOSS. Tanx for the help people.

Welcome to Windows. From what I've hard, ME was supposed to be unstable. Try reinstalling. As for the legetimit copy deal, the topic is only brought up when people claim that they "lost" the manual.

If you don't like WinXP get Win2k, ME is awful IMO, they actually lower the price of a PC where we get them from if you get it preloaded with ME!

LOL, lowers the price? OMG that sucks. I actually havent had any problems with WinME. It to me was more stable than XP, go figure. I was thinking about Win2k, but I cant seem to find it for sale where I live. Thanks for the info. Laters.

Well, for starters, I would personally choose XP over ME - I've seen nothing but problesm with ME. But of course, that kind of thing varies a great deal...

Now, you have simply chnaged versions on these OS switches, no clean installs?

I would personally start there - back up whatever you;ve got and go for a format and clean install of the OS, and then - obivously - a clean install of PS.

I have seen a lot of cumulative problems happen with switching windows versions without doing this....

If that seems too much hassle, at least go with an unistall/reinstall of PS.
Your resources are far more than enough to handle PS wihtout causing the problems you're having.

yea I've been playing with computers for some time now. It is common knowledge not to roll XP back or do an upgrade when dealing with legacy things. I ALWAYS do a clean install. Once a year I back up all essential files and reformat the drive, then reinstall the OS (new) as well as the programs. PS is usually the last one on, seeing as it has the color profiles to deal with. This last time however I didnt do it that way, it was late and I was cranky. So my only option seems to be what a number of people have came up with, reinstall PS and my 3 filter programs, (EyeCandy, Xenophex, and KPT5) . Thanks for the help, im at work at the moment, but I will do it later this evening, and post any changes. Also I found the problem with the slow fonts. Seems the FONT BOSS font manager, only links the fonts into the Windows FONT folder, from an auxilary font folder I have on another drive. Anyone know of a FREE font manager thats comparable to ATM or Extensis Suitcase? Thanks again for the help people. I'll harass and annoy all of you laterz. thanks again.

"Windows ME is the Devil" it has known gapping memory holes. Your photoshop liscence should be revoked for even thinking of using that operating system. What didn't you like about XP? XP runs on the same kernel as WIN2K. It is highly stable! And you can turn off ALL visual effects, and Go to clasic style interface. BUT IF you insist on friviously wasting your ram away on black holes of "ME" then Make sure you have ALL known patches and service packs.

Hmm, I don't think a naked lady is offensive/tastless at all. Unless shes fucking a banana or something. I think that a Star of Baphoment (I think that is what it's called) is infinitely more offensive.

Anyways, aside from that: It's not big, but it's red. Bright red. Scalding bright red. The fading effect is fairly ugly too. I'd rather see the skull or the pentagram as a red/orange/whatever color as a single, non animated image.

...But seriously: Whats so offensive about non-graphic nudity (I never really saw the image, so I'm not sure). I'm sure you wouldn't care if he had a section of the Sistine Chapel (ceiling painting, of couse) decorating his sig, or redrawn, and of course the statue of David is fine and dandy huh? In fact, it's so acceptable, that I've seen it printed in a (really small) kids magazine.

I had to edit the girl out, so theres a gapping hole in the fade sequence cause Skaarj or whatever didnt like it. So like a good conformist I changed it. Otherwise. I like Red. And something with the set up I have running (PC Configuration) mad XP tweak out every so often. I had one of my tech head friends come and check it out ( he works for a big computer corp, as well as Remote help from MicroWeenie) They both came to the conclusion that my set up just wasnt suited for that OS. So I keep ME up to date, and it runs like a top. Thanks again people. And Satan Loves you (Inserted as a joke on the previous Baphomet post) Actually it is just a pentagram and the skull is from the band DANZIG. No Baphomet here today, that is the pic of the goat. I dont have that one,..... yet.
