Are there any people here who belong to the National Association of Photoshop Professionals?
http://www.photoshopuser.com/

I've seen a couple of issues of the magazine and it looks realhelpful, but the $100/year membership seems pretty steep. Are the discounts, etc. thay they offer worthwhile or should I save my money?

Thanks

Here!!!

The magazine + the free stuff you get with the membership + the discounts + the support groups + the tutorials are well worth the money. Plus when you renew your membership you get even more free stuff (books, videos, etc.)

If you itemize on your taxes (as I do here in the USA) you can even write off the membership.

You can think of it this way... you can buy 2-3 good photoshop books, or buy all the stuff listed above... but if your really into the program, you need to get some sort of support material to help you out. Places like this forum are free and full of great people who will help, but you can't come here to ask every question you have... you must discover most of the answers for yourself... AND that is what NAPP can do for you.

Sheeeesh... sounds like I am on their payroll. Best of luck with your choice!!!

They have a professional association for a piece of design software?

You've got to be kidding me. It's just a tool -- why bother?

So much of what people do with photoshop has very little to do with the software and more to do with thier talents as an artist.

If it was some kind of IT dev software that required a decent level of support then sure, but that I just don't understand.

Well, at the very least, the program has a huge feature set; you could use it every day for a year and not learn every little trick it has. And then there are a lot of really stunning effects you can get that don't have to do with creativity so much as Einsteinian mutant intelligence. No reason not to get a newsletter about that sort of thing. (Of course, every time I've glanced at their newsletter, it's been things like "make nifty shiny buttons.")

Whoa... am I experiencing deja vu, or did we have a topic very similar to this in the past?

[Edit: Hmm... I think we did. It shows up in search, but apparently it was trashed. Oh well.]
