Is there any way to get a portrait and convert it to look like lineart without having to actually use illustrator to zoom in and trace the portrait?

I was drawing a picture of a superhero for a friend of mine but can't seem to get her features right when i draw her face. so i was just gonna photoshop her face onto a finished artwork i've done. can any of you gurus out there shed some light on this?

Thanks!

in the end it was gonna be a gag to get a chuckle out of her. so the goal here was to come up with something cheezy. sorry, i'm not a photoshop expert like some of you.

thanks eye! i've been trying to do some searching around but i guess i was just using all the wrong words so nothing helpful would come up. that, and the fact that half the links that did show up just ended up reverting me back to the search page anyway.

I'm still not sure of what it is you are trying to achieve here hecster2k. It would always help your cause if you could post up or link to an image of the type you are trying to recreate.
Is this anything like the effect you are looking for?

Well, why don't you post up your lineart, and what your attempting. Post it with the attempted face and with an attempt at Photoshopping a face. Seriously. If you don't put some effort into your post, most people aren't going to put the effort into helping you

Ok...Anyways, like TBB said/implied: Cutout should work fine, with some minor tweaking. The only problem with cutout is that it tends to block colors into...well...a cutout. So straight lines and polygonal shapes.

Your best bet is going to be doing some vector art (tracing) in Illustrator, I'd think. For this kind of thing, unless your comfortable with it, I'd avoid (like HELL) the path tools in PS.

ok, ok. i will remember that for further reference. as for the lineart, i will try to post something up with some actual work put into it. i've been messing around with the picture for a couple days trying to come up with something, but i just wasn't achieving what i wanted to so i never saved it.

what i'm trying to do is get a cartoony (does that pass as a word?) look out of it. maybe i'll just get the jawline and try to master redrawing the eyes and then just cover up and turn her into a scantily clad superhero.

to be continued.... and thanks for your help thus far!

Filter>Smart Blur
edges only, play with threshold and radius settings. Might be enough to get you going.

Ahh! Looks like it was done in MS Paint.

If you've drawn a sketch and want to convert it into line art... Just use the pen tool and stroke path.

The find edges filter might also be usefull..

Duplicated layer, desaturated, ran find edges filter, inverted colors, tweaked levels, added layer mask.

Mayhaps i should have mentioned that the image I did above, I taowiddled with it my own meandering way.
I opened the .jpg photo in PS, copied the image into Flash MX (I happened to have it open at the time) ran the TraceBitmap function. This has a quite a few settings to play with. the settings I used were:
(ColourThreshold=40, MinimumArea=20px, CurveFit=Normal, CornerThreshold=Normal)
By altering these you might get a closer effect. Then I C/P back into PS.
This, of course, is well within PS's "loving" reach, I just tried Flash for a change.

[edit] Thanks counterfeitbacon I'd forgotten 'bout that way. Looks good too. I just couldn't resist trying it, what d'you think?
