Got another stupid question. I have created this portion of a layout and I ALWAYS get stumped on the text..I just suck with text and with what flows with the other elements. Anyone got any ideas or pointers?

Here is the image (The text is going on the metal panel on the right and say "the COMPUTER PYLE")

you could make the text look like chipped paint, or maybe old metal cut out letters... intents inset in the metal, or you could make them look like wood tacked on....

What are you asking for here?

Shifter you did not mention what version of PS you have. I'm running PS7.
Here's a quickie for example.
I typed the text on a seperate layer, and played around with layer styles*. (Inner shadow/Outer shadow/texture fill) are the ones I used here I think. But just play with them for starters. This is just one option there are plenty more depending apon the effect you want.
[edit] You'll find the layer styles button at the bottom of the layers panel, or just double click on the layer[/edit]

Sorry Tao. I am using PS7. I created a standard image with some gradient overlays and animated it with a shine in Imageready...its nice but not sure it fits..wanted something sort of electrical like it had power to it..but at the same time that fit the layout. The inset like you made was my first choice but then was trying to figure how to make it look sort of "juiced" like if it was lighted.

Sorry man, looked more like half done glass tubing to me than a metal panel. Too precise and plasticy I'd say. Nonetheless...

Something closer?

Ah that's pretty good DG. And also sparked the idea for me to make that a tube rather than a metal panel. I will mess with it and see what I can come up with. Thanks

And just for referance, this is the full "layout" image so far...barring changes and the text was just temporary til I decided what to do.

..Bah wouldn't let me edit it in will have to ad a post following this edit.

Your main wire, on the left looks flat, I would put some time in on that wire to give it some better detail, the conection piece makes me think that it wants a little convex ")" look to it where it connects. Your yellow red and green wires make me think that they should be made a little brighter and more saturated, they seem a bit washed out. Your category links simply break the feel of the design, you spent so much time on the rest, it seems you might spend some more time on your navigation.

I also feel you might want to dump the oval for content, it would be really slick without it, that involved keeping the lower metal bar.

This looks really good, keep up the good work.

Hey thanks alot for your time and critique. Most of the details are not final such as the saturation of the wires..and I also noticed that wire wasa little flat...that was due to rearranging my original wire..I will probably redo that as well. As for the oval design..it's not really going to appear oval because it will be filling more than one page (no iframe type scrolling and most all the pages fill more than a full page..) But I will test it both ways and see which appearance looks better. I did have use for the blank space in the curved areas thats not input yet so it makes it look a little weird.

As for the menu..I chose some brighter colors (white) just to make the menu stand out a little more...I messed around with other things but since they will be drop box type menus I wanted them to be easily seen and read. However if you have any different ideas please let me know.

Thanks again.
