This is very much the correct place to ask this, it's a very stupid, basic problem I'm having. I just recently switched to Dreamweaver from FrontPage, I've got Dreamweaver MX.

With FrontPage, when I link to an image on my harddrive and then upload the HTML file and the images, the image will link to the folder online, not on my harddrive. When I use Dreamweaver, however, it uploads the HTML with the links straight to my harddrive, meaning none of the images show up. A friend of mine says it has to do with the way I've configured Dreamweaver, but he doesn't know how I can go about fixing it.

I could use any help fixing this but not just how to hand-code the html.

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to find an option in there somewhere that deals with relative vs absolute links. You'll want to makre sure you're using relative links.

I can't tell you exactly where it is because I haven't used Dreamweaver in a few years. (Thank god.)

Is it wrong for me to say that your problem is that you're using Dreamweaver isntead of hand-coding it?

ah, yes. the tried and true "shouldnt you be hand coding it instead of using dreamweaver?" spiel. These people need help, not told what they shouldnt have bought. i wonder how many customers those poor folk at macromedia lose over these posts.

Hopefully that answers your question. Well, not really.

Hopefully they end up losing a lot of customers. That's kinda the point, Josh....

It may be hard for you to fathom, but having people who actually know what they're doing making web pages is in fact a good thing.

I can't answer the question, but I would imagine the help files have an answer.

In the meantime it can only help to learn how to add the code by hand.....

I think that if he does what I said in my first post that should fix it. Isn't that helping him josh?

you might try creating a folder and associating that folder to a "site" first before creating your first page. Then save all files in that folder.

The better way would be to hand code.

Geezz.. some of you need to chill out a little. If the guy wants to use DW to build sites, then let him. It's his money he bought it with and his websites. If it's easier for him to use DW instead of hand coding, then let it go.. let him do his thing.

Is it wrong for me to use DW despite that maybe I know how to code by hand??????

altec, what you need to do is setup a site first. Create a folder on your drive and link DW to it. Once you do that, it will be lot easier for you to manage your files. So create a new site in DW and then link it to the folder that is on your drive. That's if you want to do it locally. If you want to do it so it pulls from remote location, I THINK you need to setup your connection to the site.

Try it...

Geeeezz....maybe you need to chill a little.

I don't see anyone getting excited up there =)

And considering the guy never came back, I doubt he's reading your response anyway...

I don't need to chill.. it's just funny how people right away say :"the problem is that you are using DW" He asked about a DW problem that he had and people start to tell him not to use it....

I figure since the thread is still open, I could reply... couldn't I???

You may also notice that there were many actual answers given, and the issue of not using dreamweaver was only hinted at.

Melodrama like this is rather infantile. Yes, obviously you can reply.....but if you reply with that kind of attitude, you're bound to get it back

Actually, when I first saw the thread title I thought "Yup" and never bothered clicking on it because I figured he had already answered his own question.

I realize that's not very helpful, but I think it's kind of funny. Maybe it's just me.
