Hey All!
As a full time web designer, I have my annual review coming up.
Does anyone have any opinion of what is a "normal" amount of work a webdesigner
is expected to produce?

I've produced some 60+ sites since the beginning of the year. I've argued
with my employer that this is far more than most other web designers do,
but he seems to think this is just normal.
These are high quality sites with an average size of about 15-50 pages, a handfull are 100% flash based, and a majority has some sort of DHMTL dropdown navigation. Some also have dynamic content.

So, am I doing a great job, or am I just average?

thanks!

Quality over quantity.

Just knowing how to make a Flash site or how to do a DHTML dropdown doesn't automatically put you ahead of the game, you know.

Not my area of expertise. 60 sounds like a lot, but I'd have to see some of these sites first.

Outpatient counseling, anyone?

Hi and welcome abalone.
I'm sorry this is not my area either, I'm sure someone will be along soon who is more experienced. It sounds like a lot to me, but I suppose it depends on the whole package, support ect.

Could you show us some of these pages? I'm no expert, far from one in fact, but I could tell a quality site when I see one.

I did two websites during my summer job. It might have been more like 4 if I hadn't had other assignments. 60 is definitely an awful lot, so quality is important here.

I've found that doing a lot of work quickly just spoils employers. Not only will they expect you to work yourself to the bone, giving better (not just level) results each evaluation period, but once they fire you for not doing 80, 100, or 200 sites a year, they'll expect the next guy to do 250.

Realistically, whether 60 sites is a lot depends on how much custom content you've made for each one. Given about 3 days per site and content that's already prepped for inclusion, I could put together that many sites only if I had pre-existing templates and no need to get approval at any stage of production. If you're going through what I'd call a "normal" web design process, where you're designing an entire site from scratch, without re-using existing designs, then 60 sites in 8 months is not only superhuman, but unbelievable unless you're working 18-hour days every day.

Hmmmm..... shall i just say what others maybe thinking ?

"Your talking out your............", nah !! better not, dont want to offend anyone.

60 sites ?, i guess, as others have hinted, that the qaulity of those sites is not upto much ( prove me wrong ). If you have come here for genuine advice, fine, what do you want us to say, " well done here's a cookie " ?, but if you have come here to somehow brag, well, i'm sorry, but this is the wrong place.

60 sites is a lot, but one would have to see the sites to gage their quality. Point being, any monkey with a computer can drop text into the same layout with only a change in color scheme and a new header image. That's called FrontPage.

On the other hand if you have done 60 quality sites in 9 months, you are a machine.

I'm just curious what these sites look like. Judging by some of the sites I've seen the luniz in the asylum develop, I would'nt doubt
the quantity..... we'll see....
