Topic: well... something kinda old... need your ideas&opinions (Page 1 of 1)

the site is not available in English for the time being, but I could really use some advice on how to make it more... exciting
so any ideas, constructive one, are more than welcome!

Your colors are boring. Sorry. I suggest using more and more aggressive color in your work. Your navigation isn't too impressive either. I'm sure if you sat down you could come up with something better. Your text makes absolutely no sense to me, shesh is it really asking too much for everyone to speak the same language as i do? Or at least create there webpages in it?



In all seriousness though, the web is full of very good information on both color and typography. I would suggest picking up a book on color, and a book on Photoshop might not be such a bad investment. I don't think I've seen you around here, but if you haven't, you can ask a lot of coding and Photoshop questions in these forums. We all try to be pretty helpful.

arlechinu: I would tend to agree with Jestah that a good overhaul may be in order. There are some issues with the splash page (black drop shadow and raised table borders) but it is the main page which needs the work. The large amount of buttons and other things supplied by other parties doesn't help things feel professional and you could do with relegating that either to the bin (do you really need it) or lower down the page - there is a big space on the right that is crying out for content. Although they need a bit of attention I quite like the pictures and colours but the naviagtion needs doing with more HTML and moving into a more prominent position (on 800x600 its all below the fold).

I'd wait and see what others say about graphics and colours but you could do with moving things around and thinking about giving the page more content and more focus. I'm not sure if that makes things more exciting but do you really want exciting?

let's see... complete overhaul, huh? I kinda agree on that, but the thing is that blue is the official colour of the association, so more colours would definitely mess it up (although at least one or two more colours wouldn't hurt, I know) as for the pictures, there is no point in making them more... "artistic", since simplicity is what I was aiming for. As for the menus and buttons and navigation... there is SO much information that I had to put into the site, that I HAD to organise it in some way...

let me see what I should work on:
-colours
-navigation
-English version (yeah, yeah)
right?

PS: Jestah... you totally forgot about me... remember I told you that jester=arlechinu, but one is in english and the other one is in romanian... remember now?... I had been around here some time ago, but school got in the way and you haven't seen me around for some months now...

I think what is being said is to tighten it up..it sprawls and blue is many shades..the scroll bar could use some shading for instance..and the navigation as Emp said could be moved around.. it is just the rambling, sort of stuck aroundness to everything.. that is boring and same old, same old...there are many rambling stuck together sites.. it is the precision and crispness and color shading that makes a page stand out even with size, image and color constraints. The basics are all there, it could be a very good and professional design..I think

skyetyger is right - I don't feel the colours need changing but you really need to tighten up the structure of the page. The simplest thing would be to keep the left graphic, take a bit of the top, bring the navigation over from the bottom of the left graphic (pos. have it below the title) and put some content in that blank space on the right. If you need all the other stuff then move it onto another page. That would be what I'd do for a start anyway and then kick some ideas round about refining the design.

Sorry, arlechinu completely slipped my mind. Now I remember though.

Yes, I like both Emperor and sky's ideas.

I think one major thing you should address is the sites organization. Everything is squished together.
