Any chance you kind chaps and ladies could give me your opinions on a site have created for my former school ?
The url : http://www.nmhsb.info - Basically I would your opinions on design and functionality. If view correctly
etc, etc.
Rocking! - highly functional, attractive, fast loading, clearly defined, very nice indeed. Only crit I have - left side buttons are too big by about 20 px. Didn?t look at your source - it didn?t fall over IE 6 win98. Very cool.
Thanks for the kind comments. I agree about the buttons myself but when testing on high res they looked
illedgable. The school has a two rooms of multimedia pc's which all run at 1280 x 1024 so I thought I would leave
them as they were.
I am interested to hear people's comments who have a Mac. I don't have access to a Mac so I have not been
able to test it on that platform.
PaulSmith: I'd never invite flames if I were you as you might just get them. I'm just going out but I'll be happy to review the site as I'm pretty sure my late grandfather taught there (if its the school I'm thinking of)!! Life is full of coincidences.
Really windows XP ? I got them from an icon set which I downloaded, I never realised they were from windowsxp. I don't use XP. The icon set was an assorted set of misc icons. I just thought they seemed appropriate.
I don't think Microsoft would be that bothered though. Do you ? It is not like I am making money from them ? I am not getting paid as it is for my former school.
I will also agree with wead - fast, clean, smooth...works at lower resolutions as well, although the buttons do seem too big down low...but at 1024x768 they sem ok.
So...yup - nice work.
I have no idea what sort of issues might be involved if indeed those *are* windows XP icons - you may want to look into it, and possibly look for replacements just in case.

I dig it man! Very professioanl looking site. The only thing that really bugs me is on the "Teachers" page that blinking "IMPORTANT USER NOTICE". Wooooo that kind of makes me sick to my stomache. It is really distracting to the rest of the page.
That's it. Nice site though.
<edit>Found something. This is just me being picky. You may want to get rid of those <font> tags and put all that into an external CSS. </edit>

big ditto on the user notice...I kinda got scared when I first saw it...
The site looks fine on my MAC and IE 5.0 at 1024x768
a couple things
You might want to use HTML and CSS for the "enter" link instead of an image rollover ~ for clarity and speed - set your link color to white and drop this code into the head of your document <style><!--a:hover { color: yellow; font-weight: bolder; letter-spacing: 2pt }
--></style> and it will look like this
of course you could remove the bold and spacing tags
...just an idea
also, I'm thinking the pages would look a little less sterile (and maybe more elegant) if you made the background color slightly offwhite...and try to optimize your JPGs (Manchester School headers) a tad better ~ the dropshadow is sorta braking up there - what are you using to create them?
other than that the site navigates easily and represents the school very well...
1 more thing I just noticed ~ the 'links' link isn't doing anything when I roll over it...shouldn't it be like the others?
peace peace and good luck

Sorry, I've not been at a machine for a few days. Thanks again for the reply's. I originally used CSS but when I went into school they were still using Netscape 4 on all the machines. I have told them to upgrade them to IE 6 but they have to wait and get permisson from the govenors of the school.
Thanks to Pauly B for taking the trouble to create that page for me. I might just do that today. I noticed that the splash image loads ok but the rollover takes a few seconds to appear.

Yeah. When I was suggesting to use CSS I was meaning for the font face and colors and stuff. Don't worry about the positioning stuff as NN4 has some real issues with it. But get rid of those <font> tags and put all that stuff in a external CSS.
I will do that this week sometime then! If I am totally honest I never really use Netscape 4 and have not bothered to see what css capability it has. So I just used the trusty if messy font tags.
