Topic: Front page re-design (Page 1 of 1)

Hey, it's been a while since I've sat down around that big jelly bean shaped table called the asylum but I recently redesigned a front page for a site I did years ago, which looking back on looks horrible. I just wanted to see what you guys had to say about it. There are going to be a few edits, as per the clients request. IE: the wavy text in the sky is going to go and a small clean logo will be hovering around there somewhere near the tree. And a few logos for awards the photographer has won will be on the frontpage as well. Remember, so far the redesign only includes the FRONT PAGE.

Wow! I really dig the imagery give on the front page. The typography lend to the "wild" nature theme. Very nice, very nice indeed. Great work.

Looks really good.

I would look at is the text at the bottom. The section that says "Awarded a National. . . " and "Selected by . . . " is really crammed up against the "Wild Nature Photography".

The only other thing is the alignment of the text under the "Galleries" is kind of strange.
I thought those were seperate from anything else and didn't realize they were part of the "Galleries" Have you thought about doing some type of PHP or JavaScript dropdown menu for that?

Other than that it looks really good.

Allow me to level with you for a bit.

The design, while pleasant to the eye, really isn't a web design. You've incorporated certain elements that are "web like," but the main focus of the site remains for a print presentation--the spil of image that goes on forever, the typography in the top... it strikes me as certainly print.

That being said, allow me to reiterate my first point: it's very pleasant to the eye.

My only suggestion is one that is purely technical: the verdana "wild nature photography" type on the top image gets overly rastered when put in JPG form. What you might want to do is seperate it completely, layer it over the photo image as a transparent gif.

Of course, Macintosh gamma is different from a PC, and these things appear quite a lot more evident to me than they would to the PC public.

Yup, the wavy text in the sky is going out the window. It is getting replaced by a clean logo, small and simple. That means the award text at the bottom will have more room. Twitch, yeah it does have that print feel to it. It's not really a powerful website. It is completely css, html, and javascript. The client just wanted a simple site that he could show off his work in attempt to draw more of a crowd to his print imagery. If I have time I'll throw in a dhtml dropdown for the galleries a la computerarts style.

My only problem is the blue text on the black background. I quite simply cannot read it. Otherwise it is very nice. Simple. But nice.

What is the name of the font you've used on your navigation?
Can you give me a link?

I believe that font is called Arquitectura. Sorry, don't know where I found it. I either got it off of some free font site or from one of those 1000 font packs.

The front page is nice, very pleasing.

The rest of the pages are, well, EEEEEEK.

Are these next up to redesign I hope?

Yeah, Krets, I know...My client doesn't want to spend the money to take the time for me do a redesign of the other pages yet.
