Well Doc, I possibly know her better than most here, or not..~L~ but even though she's green, I think she has a level headedness that might keep folks in place, as well as being quite nice, and bringing a bit of that feminine contingent that we're mostly lacking at times.

I should torture her by telling you to demote her to complete newbie poster...hehe...but she'd do a good job as an MS I think.

(Plus, free legal advice...cough)

So...yeah...and such.

how does 20 sound?

we should write like an ozones constitution or something. like you can only be MS for like a year and then you have to reapply..

stuff like that.. covering all the stuff we discuss here...
I could do it if you want..

I'm not sure I like that idea. People come and go according to circumstances, and having to apply to be an MS makes it seem more like a job, than a guide.
I don't think we need to worry about having a number cap on MS either, Doc's been doing well with picking and choosing the people who help keep things together around here. This is Ozones Asylum, not the MS Asylum.
I don't believe we need a constitution either, we know the guidelines we should follow as MS&Ps without such a document.

My sentiments exactly.

I don't want to see the facade of power rushing to people's heads...this is such a "fun" (aimed) place, and as mentioned.."Ozone's Asylum" no matter how involved we are in helping, Doc has built a very open, comfortable, free place. Nice to try and keep it that way.

well, if there are almost 20 MadS. then there will always be atleast one around at any given time, so I dont think it is that much more of a job. ya know? but having to re-apply? I think that if you are given the position of a MS, it should be someting that would only be taken away if you requested or if you were kicked out.
also, we need some guide, but nothing really strict.

as a former administrator for another forum.. heres what i think.

1. people will always come and go. some people will more or less take up residency at a particular forum and consider it their "home". some people will only come here for "quick answers/fixes", hang out for a short while, and move on.

2. if you dont impose some sort of rules (ie. no porn, warez, solicitation, etc.) and consistantly enforce them, people will walk all over those rules just to see how far they can go. (yes, i have had to delete pornographic posts on a gaming forum that is mainly home to a fairly mature group).

3. i think that it needs to be the strong, mature regulars that are offered administration rights. no offense, but shiiizzzam has only been around for a month. dont you think that would make some other older members a bit jealous? how can you be sure that she (or any other newer member offered such a position) will be around in a month or 2?

4. you need to make sure that the people given administrative rights do not let their feelings/opinions get in the way of what gets sensored or that they do not abuse their powers. we cant have people like dave who doesnt like charlie, so hes gonna edit charlies posts enough to get him in trouble (an example, since i dont know anyone here named dave or charlie <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/wink.gif">. now if someone has trouble with the ubb code or mis-types a url and you can set it right, by all means do so (i actually did this often, since we did not have the ability to edit our own posts on the forum i used to mod).

5. the moderators need to be together. i had a bad experience as a moderator. we had 6 people with administrative rights and only 2 of us were active. trying to get us all in the same room to talk was like pulling teeth. the 2 guys that "owned" the board (they hosted it themselves) were very inactive in posting and keeping the place free of duplicate posts. but what they wanted was the law. we didnt have any sort of rules or anything for the board, and people impersonating eachother. it was a big mess. the only *good* thing that came out of the whole thing, was that i met my boyfriend.

hmm.. ok, i think im done babbling.

From what I have seen "policing" around here pretty much takes care of itself. It seems that all the people who hang out here have a certain code that they go by. Anyone who goes against this is pretty much handled by the rest of the forum.

I seriously doubt that any of the MS' would ever modify someone's post to cause trouble. (OK, so maybe mikey). <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

I AM GOD, BOW DOWN BEFORE ME!!!

Heh heh. I love saying that every once in a while, who was it who gave me that silly idea?

I'm not god, and this is not a government. If it resembles a government at all, it should function mostly as a "Rational Anarchy". (Two cookies to whomever can place that reference!) I like anarchy, it suits me well. Anarchy as such can only exist if the people living under that system take responsibility for their own actions and the state of the environment they live in. We don't all have to be clones, marching in lockstep and singing the company song. We can disagree about all sorts of things. As long as most of us can agree about HOW we should disagree we can keep living in this happy state we've been enjoying. If someone pushes too far, and most people here are reasonable people, then the group will take care of policing itself.

I did a comic book back in the mid to late 80's about anarchism, and the conditions that would have to exist to maintain that happy state. Left to its own devices, society would tend to "clump" around strong folks who appear to provide order. This is typically only possible if a bulk of the population wants to be led. (This was a comic book, remember. Relax!) During this transition stage, as people learned what it meant to be truly independent of rules, and the HUGE burden that places on an individual, there needed to be a regulator on the system. A certian group of heroes, chosen only by themselves sprang into being. These folks were the "rogues", the wanderers, the only true anarchists amongst the group, living by their own code. They taught when they could, and punished where they felt they had to. If one of the rogues got out of line, eventually one (or a group) of the others would band together and destroy them. Then they would drift off again, going there own way, doing what they felt was right. mankind was learning to be a collection of strong individuals, taking responsibility for their own actions.

(Hmm, running off to see if I can find that essay I wrote for the back cover of one issue...)

OK, so I found it, and it's 6 pages long, written by hand, heh. I'll have to post more about this after I transcribe it. I'll put it on a web page, it really doesn't belong in this forum, except incidentally.

Oh, BTW! The name of the main character for that comic?

Doc--
interesting story, I enjoyed it very much.
however, I think I (lest I say 'we') was looking for a more black and white answer.
"Is she in or not" the only differentiating factor between the forum and that story was that only you have the power the promote people to MS...
...and the point about the gov. had nothing to do with the 'service' we're doing, but with the selection of leaders..
if you want to cut MS's, I'm all for that, too
so what's the deal?

<EDIT>
Sorry, didn't see DG post...

I'm having a blast. I think this is really cool and the MS is also really cool.. but I understand the difference between the two...
I don't really understand the jealousy, but what I see about Shiiizzzam is that I go down the posts and I always see her sig (oooo, sexy) and I thought Doc was promoting the regulars and people who are here a lot, not just once in a while...
even he suggested it..

(or should I say 'He'? heheheh)

Shiiizzzam, (three "i"'s, three "z"'s, I counted!), ahem. I like Shiiizzzam, I suggested here for the title, and this is really the first time I've ever given anyone else any say about the situation. I had a job once, I was the boss, but not the owner. I couldn't give anyone any raises, but we were slow, we were a printing company, so we printed business cards for all of us, down to the newest employee. I decdied that all of us should choose our own titles. Some folks were straight about it, they wanted to be something like a a "Printer". At least one guy wanted the title of "Godlike Ruler of the Universe", which I approved. Bestowing titles is easy. Getting a raise is hard!

Heh. Parable, there. True story, too!

There! Did it again.

Give a fancy title all the credit it deserves. Judge yourself by who you are, what you do, and how many people care about you. That's how I handle it! Life is pretty good. The only worthwhile goal is to be happy. Be happy, now!

Ya know Petskull I hate to keep saying this. Doc has stated the "rules" for the forum, and as far as rules go if any are to be made, it's up to the Doc to make them. This is his home we are guests here. I don't think Doc was looking to make big changes when he created this section of the Asylum, rather he was asking if we, as Mad Scientists, would help him out a little more.

Doc's Rules and Guidelines:

What I'm going to ask of you is simple to state, but carries a lot of responsibility. I want to ask al of you to help me be "the concience" of this forum. You don't need to be the morality police, hell, you shouldn't* be the morality police, we don't want that! What we want is for all of the folks here to play nice with each other, and to remember what it is we've got here, and toi help make it better. You don't need to jump into every hread and steer thing right, you don't need to fix every problem or stop every argument. You don't even need to jump into a thread at all if you don't want to or don't feel you need to. The thing is, there are *so* many new posts daily anymore, I can't even read all of them! I'd like your help keeping things under control.

- Profanity is not against the rules; being rude or mean is.

- Having opinions is good. Disagreeing with others is good too, keeps us on our toes. Being rude or mean while disagreeing with someone is not good, and will get you slapped.

- Posting serial numbers for commercial programs is not allowed. This is about the only thing that I would kick someone from this board for.

- People use warez. Some of *us* might use warez. Officially we frown upon warez, but accept that it's a fact of life in this biz. If you must discuss this kind of stuff, please be discreet.

- Porno is frowned upon here, mostly. Especially crude stuff with no artistic merit might get banned, but we're not prudes. If your art features scantily clad, beautiful women, post away, but don't be surprised if certain folks don't like it, and tell you so! Try and remember that many of our visitors here are legal minors, so don't post anything that might make their teachers or parents make them stop coming, cool?

More to come from Doc as time goes on.

Let's not make this a big deal guys, beacause it's not a big deal. There really isn't much we need to do on a daily basis. Our roles call for us to jump in only from time to time. If we, as Ms & Ps, need our roles to change or evolve, this will happen with time.

yeah, dude, but you gotta admit that we can't start giving MS's a la willi nilli. We have to establish some sort of "You earned MS becase:" or "You didn't make MS because:". Without something like this, then only friends of friends will get MS's, as opposed to because of merit..

waddaya say we go back to the old "350 posts" method, only set the bar at something more common like 250 or 300?

if you do it based off of how many posts there are, youll have people spamming the board *just* to get that magical number of posts. i see it all the time on other ubb type boards. hmm.. well.. i know one guy that spams ubb type boards just so that other people will look up to him.

i am a firm believer in reward by merit. if someone says "me me me make me moderator can i plz be moderator", they shouldnt be allowed to mod. i seriously must question people getting mod just because their friend is a mod.

the kind of people that should be mod are the kind that put forth contributions to the community without looking for rewards, particularly long time members. i can think of a few people in this little community that would fit this description, but would probably get passed over because their nature isnt "flamboyant" enough and they just dont seek that lime light.

what fun is it if everyone is a mod?
