Heh heh. This'll be fun, trust me! I was hard at work on my newest CPU meter animation for the changeMinds site, which I thought seemed fitting for the current page. Instead of building it into that page though, I'll do it as a "stand alone" thing-a-majig. I'll post more for this a bit later...

Post away! 'Bout time we saw some fun stuff down here, give people a reason to visit.

I love the way this new series of yours waits for you a bit, and then goes off and plays by itself. Sweet stuff.

Hmm, I'd say, "as simple as you think is appropiate". This is not a punishment, this is just a reminder, why are here? Because we like to design web pages and stuff like that! So, go create something, and post the link back here. Eventually the rest of the Asylum will guess that something cool is happening here, and won't that be fun?

I've got the first version of the pseudo-CPU meter in place at changeMinds, (even though it doesn't really tell the truth, but the graphics would've been boring with it pegged at 99% <g> ) My next step is to create that running jiggly-line that graphs the stated usage, I can't quite decide whether to use a set of images in DIVs, or write small divs with just one or two pixels of gold into them, and then scroll them. We'll see, eh?

Oh, and.......yes. I do take it personally.

Why?

Because I'm sick of all these people who talk so much about how what i say doesn't matter hanging on my every word and throwing bitch fits about it.

{{{edit -

ok, due to some things I've picked up on Q, let me just clarify - I'm not upset with Shi, in fact I understand her and her sense of humor. Like most of you do not.

We have spoken, as we often do, and she understands that my comments were not aimed at her, but rather at the few people who would take *her* comments in a serious manner. Just as I understand that her comments were not aimed in any serious manner at DG or myself.

Much to the dismay of certain people I'm *sure*

oh well.

Didn't build a website, but I spent the last two days in the yard, digging and building and breaking and stacking stone.....man I love that.

I'm happy.

Just sick of whiny bitch cock suckers.

But hey........that's life.

Ah well.

Thanks for the break in the conversation Doc - I really truly appreciate your objective view and your easy going attitude.

Thank you for keeping this place alive.

'night all.

Oh yeah, I hear you both (DL and InI), you both have good points, and mucho insight. InI, I totaly dig the small team approach for most projects, and the enhanced teams for bigger jobs, I just finished two jobs just like that, me for coding, malin for graphics, and this other guy robert for project leading, it worked *beautifully*. Small projects can be the best.

quote:
"I'm happy." _ DL-44

Good for you! DL, you go work in the yard, and don't worry about any bitching you get directed at you. *I* value you, and your presence here, you're my friend, and a big part of what makes this place go. I proposed this "do some damn webdesign!" project not as a punishment of any sort, instead as more of a "good karma" project. I hear bad things from time to time, I deal with it by just going about my business and having fun with it, I think that's a great message to share with people, teaching by example.

Plus, I just think it'd be cool if we all created something neat to post here in this forum. Kind of a little "easter egg" for the general inmate population, imagine their surprise when the word gets out!

I may do something completely new, the changeMinds.com project was already so well developed, it seems like cheating to use that one, so I'll try and think of something new...

Hey Doc,

I remember a thread a long way back, not dissimilar to this where the discussion was about creating our own space on the web. If I remember correctly, in one of your posts in that thread, you proposed various themes that several of us could do, of which part of that post was "....and Phil could write about his favourite truck...." Around the same time, Twitch suggested writing a site in pure css. The result of both those threads became my first site, which currently stands at around 70 pages and well over 500 images, and it's only a quarter done....lol

Btw, I should think you'll recognise the two photos towards the bottom of this page......

Phil, that site of yours is a masterpiece, truly! I watch a lot of people learn to do this stuff, but the only time it all really clicks together is after you've got a definite project you want to do, *need* to do! I read through a whole bunch of other "trucker tales", lots of good reading there! I had a friend who was planning to do a site for Harley owners, basically a website where they could simply and easily make a "look at my bike!" webpage for themselves. Ostensibly people would use this to sell their bikes, but we were both honest, the main draw would have been vanity. Maybe you could add a "Is my truck hot or not?" module to this site, people could post pictures of their rigs for voting! :-)

You go finish the other 3/4 of that site and we'll call your obligation complete.

Oh! Malin gave me the idea for Fragile Space, I love it! I'm going to use a slight modification of my Calendar of Events script and start loading that site full of stories, my stories. As anyone who nows me well can tell you, I have a damn near bottomless pit of silly anecdotes and stories about strange things that have happened to me, so now maybe I'll write a few down. I had another idea about building seperate meta data relating to stored articles, and I thought I'd work on it here. Instead of following a link to different texts, you'd type in free text which it would match with my meta information on the texts, and then deliver another of my famous monologues, hopefully related. ;-) I expect to have fun.

Thanks for that Doc. I'd had that domain name awhile before that thread was put forward several months ago now.
Your thoughts about people posting their own truck images is a good one. As you rightly say, finding a project that you can 'feel & relate to' propels you forward, with each new turn throwing up new ideas. I'd love to spend more time at this, learning other languages etc, but work comes between, and so concentrating on a css only theme makes for learning more about the nuances of the one method.

Stories, fireside tales, anecdotes, makes for great reading. Knowing some of your past, and the work you and Malin have created together, I can't wait to see the site unfold. I've always been in awe of some of the projects you and Malin work on, especially kungshamn Dreams - that is one very beautiful creation.

Weadah - I saw your posts at the other place, and I must say, this is a truly inspirational piece of work.

The detail - well, we expect the detail from you....ya know?

But the depth, the fucking *light* - the luminesence, the fluidity of the jacket, the mechanically interlaced facial features....the beautiful blood covered scalpels in the pocket protector.....

Arrgh. Man, this is a great fucking image.

At it's basic level, this is a truly great portrayal of artisitc talent.

Moreover it is a great visualization of a concept I think most of can at least recognize, and some of us can understand
