Seeing as how the chicken went back into the chicken cage and was trying to eat and acting like normal, that could have something to do with memory and where it is really stored. I remember hearing something about this experiment done where they removed different sections of rats brains and made them run through this maze, and no matter which section was removed, the rat always found the food. The scientist said they could not locate where exactly memory was stored.

This could be tied in somehow with how memory is not stored in the brain,
but is stored in the energy that surrounds us, or our souls. Which would prove we had souls that remember being alive after we are dead, because energy does not die, it is only transfered.

Anyway, I have to go home.

The chicken is only a figment of your imagination. There is no chicken. And there is no road.

However, hypothetically speaking, we assume the chicken does exist...
Its memory isn't stored in the head. The head reads the data which is stored on disks, which everyone knows are part of your back. But without a head, it couldn't use that memory. So you're left with the chickens main memory, which is in the Ram, and Rams live in the mountains.

doesn't even bother with the drum, and just goes to hide behind tom

Actually, its brain stem was still more-or-less intact. This could possibly explain where instinctive behaviour originates.
