Ok I was playing with this new picture and came across a problem.

How can I select just the explosion and not the plain white areas around the dust? The only thing I can think of is to zoom in with the pen tool and out line it all... I really dont want to have to do that, if there is a simple way. Thanks.

You could always just paint in a mask of the area you want to select. That would be the way that I would go.

F1_error: Could you explain how I would go about doing a mask of that area?

Enter Quick Mask mode (the grey square with the white circle under your Forground / Background color selector) select the paint brush, line or air brush. Paint the area you want masked / unmasked. When completed go back to normal mode, (the white square with white circle) You should now have your selection. Should you have it reversed, hit Ctrl+Shift+i to invert your selection.

also try using your color range selection tool... (SELECTION--->COLOR RANGE) You can use this tool to pick colors of similar ranges, and with a combination of the '+' and '-' picker along with the fuzziness slider, you might be able to get selection that way.
If the white is 'true' white (255,255,255), you may be quite lucky!

1. I would copy the layer and desaturate it.
2. CTRL click one of the color channels.
3. inverse selection, fill with black.
4. delete the areas where color is supposed to be and on the color layer delete the explosion.

This should work OK since your explosion in black and white anyway. Unless of course your talking about the recked material. Then use one of the other methods.
