When you all scan a color image, what resolution do you use? Just curious.

all depends on what I need the image for... if it is gonna end up on the web I use 72 or 144, if its a photo I am gonna do a restoration job on then I scan at about 300, sometimes 600.... I never usually scan any higher than 600.. file sizes can get pretty HUGE! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/redface.gif">

if it's for the web... i'll scan at 72dpi and 200%.

if it's for my art projects... i'll scan at 300dpi and 150%.

depends on what you're doing, though i must admit i prefer scanning in at 72dpi because 300dpi is a killer on my system (even with 500mhz and 128mb).

400 dpi for images that are to be printed. Unless they are line-art pictures which I scan at 1200.
For the web I like to have to have the picture at least screen sized (+1000 pixes wide) so I know I have enough to work from for any ideas I might get along the way.
Exactly what resolution depends on the size of the original, of course. I always use 72 for the images I publish on the web (or at elast I try to, when I can remember it)

Web-based photos I scan at 75dpi and 200-300%

I was playing around shortly after I purchased the scanner, and set the scan at 4800 dpi (mirascan software).

Needless to say I ended up with a rather large image <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif">

I scan in at 2dpi at 3%.

That way, my images are big and purdy and can be viewed only by people in planes. You should've seen my last art show.

regardless of whether it's for print or screen, but i always try to work at about twice the resolution of the final (if possible).. A lot of the work I do goes to the ugly terrible ColorLaserJet 4500N we have around here so I don't need to go much higher than 150-200dpi as a final resolution. So after compensating for any scaling I have to do i'm usually scanning in at 300-600 dpi.

I scan at no less than 1440dpi, that produces tiffs at around 180megs. Many of my images are around 300megs, or even 500...thats only for photography...for line art i scan at 720dpi, for web the lowest i can scan is 360. For print usually 1440dpi or up...Of course i use a 30,000 dollar Screen scanner...

I always scan at the highest optical resolutiojn of the scanner. Well unless its a 30,000 dollor screen scanner. 1400dpi might be just a wee bit overkill. Photos are generally only 150 to 200dpi anyway. But you get crisper scans at 600 then when you resize in photoshop the pic are very sharp and clean. Never use higher then your optical max. Use Photoshop to make the pic bigger if need be. It intropolates much better then scanner software.
