Testing out stuff to get rid of white outlines and jaggies.

How do you get that option to use the alpha channel to mask the part you want to be transparent?

you need to convert your rgb image to indexed color first before that option becomes available under file--->export---->gif89a

make sense?

edit.. make sure you have a copy of your original .psd file in case you save by mistake... converting to index by default always flattens your layers.. so always good to have a backup copy of your original! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/wink.gif">

btw.. like I said.. and Krets pointed out... using an alpha channel is a long winded way to go about it... but it does give you more control imho,

you could also try using the colour picker and get the same result...

the nice thing about PS is the number of different ways to achieve a similar goal!!!

Hey, thanks a lot VP, I learned something today and that makes me happy. Maybe my graphics will start looking decent on this forum.

One other thing though, does anyone know how to do this in 6.0? There is no export gif89 thing. Oh well, I still have 5.5 too <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

I havent got 6, but I think the same filter can be used , there is a thread around here somewhere... hold on...

there is some info there that you might find helpful....... as I was saying.. I think you can find the filter with 6 in the goodies folder or else copy it from your 5.5 folder to your 6 folder... good luck...

Blook, um... i never use the alpha chanels as a mask export for this forum.

yep... never. I always make the BackGround color in my Psd file with
Red @ 40
Green @ 2
Blue @ 2

it works wonders. so then you go to Image/Mode/Index color, and index it. i use adaptive and tell it to use the least amount of colors that i can get by with.
ya export as gif... i have no idea how 6 works.... and use the dropper tool to pick up some of the dark red... ya need to leave some feathering tho, so it dosent look so harsh... ya got it man? did that make sense? i am going to bed...
