Heh. I started playing with two different things, that both came together for me in an interestoing way. The first was this service over at www.dns2go.com - this is very cool. What they do is provide a small application on your machine that talks to *their* dns server. If you have to deal with Dynamic IP#'s, you can now host a domain with them, and whenever your IP number changes from home, the application sends it into these guys, and they send server requests back to your machine at the new number.

Then I started playing with Apache on my Windows box. Neat! I like it. I was also trying to get 6 different cams up and running, each with their own dedicated instance of webcam32, kind of a miniature dedicated webserver that only does video. So now calls to www.DocOzone.com get sent right to myu firewall, and redirected to one of the several machines here, the main one being my new Apache instance, cool. only problem is, by the time a pic finishes loading, it refreshes...so I don't really get to see it <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/frown.gif">

Ah yeah, I gotta do some more work on that. What I want it to do is to refresh one image every 5 seconds, in continuous rotation. I also have the hooks in there to make the refresh rate adjustable, better add that in there.

I'm most involved in my new webserver and URL, http://www.DocOzone.com/ - right now it should be a pretty darn complete mirror of my ozones.com site. What is *especially* cool is my experimnetal mirror of the ASYLUM! Whee! Me so proud! Installed Apache and Perl on my windows 2000 box, and stepped through the steps necessary to migrate this beast from one server to another. This is the first step towards migrating the asylum from where it lives to it's own server. Do please check this out...

This is a snapshot from this friday, at about 4:30pm my time. In downloading and setting up this mirror, I found that the forum accounts for over 1/3 of my entire web allocation, it weighed in at 53 MB! Ouch! I need that space for doing my website! Soon, very soon, the asylum must move to it's own space. Poke at this new version and see if you see anything broken, links or urls or images not working. *Preciate it, thanks in advance!

I poked around quite a bit, everything seems to be in perfect working order.

That's pretty cool. Is your setup able to handle the high traffic you get? Will that effect you at all?

I think doing this would be a blast at my house especially during the summer when we have pool parties and everyone is playing darts and pool in the game room.

I am not sure if 24/7 in a house with several roomies is a good idea. But, heh, for the right amount of *rubs fingers together~ money, it would <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif"> I remember seeing a show on that last year. But they were all strangers.

Yah, I'm concerned about speed, running this thing on windows goes against all of my principles, it's usually not stable enough. That, and also the fast that it's running off a cable modem connection to my flat in Sweden, seems to me we could be having a delay or three!

Shiii, thanks for saying so, I'll tell Malin that, but she won't believe me. I've been following the careers of a few cam girls, trying to make a living out of this kind of thing, and some make bundles and some make grocery money, others actually spend more than comes in, heh. I think it's kind of funny when I hear them arguing about who was really first, was it really Jenni? (I was live and streaming for a year beforehand, therefore *I* am the first camgirl! Hah!)

Yah, you do kinda have to think about the walking around naked part, but after a while you don't think twice about picking your nose, it's amazing how quickly we adapt. I sometimes think if the entire world was live on camera, all the time, we'd all end up being a bit more sane, and way less full of ourselves. Nothing puts life in perspective like seeing what you look like before a shower, right out of bed, heh. (Malin will tell you what that big oval freaky thing is. ;-)

note to opticburn: hehe..it's one of those philip's natural light thing that works similar to sunlight. it's suppose to make you more energetic. here in sweden we hardly get any sunlight at all during the wintertime and people get tired and depressed. (and it also makes a awesome lightsource when playing around with cams!

note to self: never have it on after 5 pm, unless you *dont* wanna be able to fall asleep before 5 am....

I finally caught this thread on the weekend. I tuned into doc and malin cam just in time to see the lights going on the Charlie Brown tree. It really made me smile.

I must agree with DL btw....what a lovely cam-ee..

..and malin is gorgeous too.

The cams are a great idea....though, as much as I'd love to show people how I work, that might stop me from wearing my Garfield boxers, and drinking coffee from the soup mugs.....and that's just a horrid premise.

Hah, I think I like the cheap old Quickcam Web with the absolutely *awful* quality the best. Because the quality was *so* poor anyway, I was able to set the compression pretty high and get pretty smooth video from the JavaPush, heh. Fun!

Whoop! Set the refresh rate just a wee bit too fast and crashed the cam, damn. (IT locks that port open, andnow I gotta restart, bummer.)

PS: DG, the girls might just really dig the garfield boxers, who can tell? Plus, you *can* set it to only grab from the waist up. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

Argh! I check out the cams for the first time and caught a glimpse of Doc and thought, "Hey, I'll come back to this and peep some more once I finish with the Asylum..." Then I come back and POOF all the lights are out and the Doc has gone to bed!

Nevertheless, very cool layout. I like being able to switch between cams like that, not to mention changing the refresh rate. Pretty clever.

Makes me want to create my own live cam when I get my new apt, but I don't even know where to start... Plus, there's that naked thing...

BTW, Doc, I noticed you were using a HandyCam for one of those rooms. (Great idea using the NightShot.) What kind of setup are you using for that?

Haven't really done much with the HandyCam yet, but it *is* cool, ain't it? We got it from one of those "lease to own" places, and spend about $35/month for the priveledge of letting it hand araound, heh. We bought a IE1394 firewire card for mailin's machine, which is dandy for sucking video or stills out of the cam, but no good for live monitoring of it. For that we needed a vheap video-in card, which ran about $100. Not sure if I like the quality of that card, though, (MiroVideo PCTV), so I may end up upgrading it again - my PC needs better video, maybe I can get a combo card?

Hmm...I'm wondering if there's some way of turning my HandyCam into a Webcam using my DV-Rex. I may have to get a cheapie card like you did, though. I'm going to have to do some research.

Think I'm going to take this to the multimedia forum. I must know more!
