I'm doing a site for a friend and it's a freebie so help me cut some corners would you? I'm looking for a free thumbnailing program that gives you control over the compression settings on the thumbnails. He's using something now called 20/20 or something thereabouts and the thumbs quality is awaful, the rest of it he is satisfied with. I just need something simple that he can use himself so I don't have to do all the updating.

Thanks

How about just setting up an action for him in PS?

Or, go to www.download.com and run a search for thumbnail.

That's what I do. I use File > Automate > Fit Image to get the images the size I want, add some sharpening, make it an action and batch process them. Then I create a droplet in ImageReady and compress them in one swoop.

Oh, that reminds me. I'm sure many of you have run into the problem of only being able to drop so many images at a time on a droplet. (Otherwise you get some kind of access error.) I figured out a way around it: Put all your images in a folder, then drop the folder on the droplet. Shouldn't be a problem, then.

Hmm... how about a program for those of us who don't have photoshop? =)

I actually looked for one recently, couldn't find one.

C'mon fellas! Photoshop is hardly freeware! Should I just burn him a copy of mine? Heheh, just messin with you.

Looking for a freeware version that will do him the HTML tables to hold the gallery together and all that with links to individual pics instead of an HTML page that calls the pics (like Photoshop does in the file/automate/web photo gallery) so he just has to do minimal formatting to this single page . He's been using a freeware thing but the way it compresses the jpeg thumbs is absolutely wretched, nasty artifacts everywhere.

I'm searchin deja and download and zdnet but I always prefer personal recommendations from people that I understand to be at least competent. So recommend some you competent mother scratchers!

I really dig that sig Wes.

Once upon a time there was a nice piece of software called CD2HTML... Today I went to its web site and found out that its no longer freeware . Fortunately, on the same site you can find previous version which is/was freeware, so give it a try: http://www.cd2html.de/download.en.html .

Thanks fellas. I think I'll start with the 20/20 and see if he's just not finding the proper widgets that set things. I appreciate the help. I guess a Photoshop forum is a silly place to ask for personal recommendations on thumbnailing freeware, everyone here just uses PS, uh Duh.

Thanks, JK, Max - it's actually a variation on my first sig I used here. I figured it was time for a change, but I was too lazy to work on one too much.
