I have been following the progress of this board for a very long time. Why hadn't I joined until now? I don't know. I leave that to the gods.

I guess that makes me the newbie here. I have been designing foreva--nearly a decade now. And lets get something straight: a pixel is a unit of measurement on the screen, and a point is a unit of measurement on a peice of paper.

I started thinking of you as pixelpoint almost right away, my mind tends to jumble thoughts and sounds together, but I'll get the spelling down, hopefully! Heh, seems like I've known you for years at least, glad you finally showed up! I totally agree, pixels and points have little in common, especially when talking about digital images, one of my pet peeves. I once spent a week trying to explain this to a Photoshop author I worked with once, inches have little or nothing to do with the web. How big is your monitor? What's the screen rez? Break out a ruler and see! (Little, but not totally nothing, actually. Can anyone guess what I'm thinking of? Hint: Why do fonts appear smaller when viewed on a Macintosh than on a PC?) Glad you lurked for a little while, I won't have to explain my little families idiosyncracies, heh. Welcome, glad you're here.

It's nice to know that you people welcome new people so quickly. I only hope you aren't quick to judge.

First and foremost, you don't pronounce my name. If you do, you've taken this Internet thing a little too close to heart.

Like I said above, I have been doing graphic design for nearly a decade. What does that mean for you? It means that I do not have high tolleration for people that are unwilling to RTFM. Anyone need that term defined? I thought not.

Most importantly, graphic design involves artistry. If you want to achieve a specific effect, I suggest you hang out with the idiots at Designs by Mark's forum. They're more than willing to give you stupid advice in terms of how to make a glassy, phasey, shiney, foamy effect. Because they're idiots and are unwilling to take into account the amount of genuine artistry that is necessary. I have lurked there for a total of an hour. I never went back.

I have to say I've been to several forums on the net and I believe I have found where all the intelligent people have been hiding. . . .right here! I have been impressed by everyones conversations about the future of the net and the like. I also noticed everyone here has some awesome personal pics, are you all photoshop masters?

But I'll just let you know where I stand on your slight diaherria of the mouth.
We have many people mingling these halls. People who have deep roots in the graphic design arts... and at the same time, we have people who have yet to get futher than their toe into the water. We're here to help each other. What I don't know... someone else will..... what someone else doesn't know..... I might. We help... that is the purpose of this board. And I find it slightly more than mildly irritating that you would come here and insult it's very purpose.
If people come here looking to obtain a certain effect, I'm going to help them. I'm going to because not everyone is planning on spending a large portion of their time learning design. People cannot learn and progress without accomplishing what someone else did before them. There's no need to come here.... slinging your "years of experience" around like it's some sort of shield that prevents you from helping others.
If you plan not to help people looking for answers on specific "effects".... that's no problem.... and no one will have a problem with that. Allow the others who don't mind to help them, without anyone being flamed for asking questions to "simple effects".


We are all idiots.... that includes you.
Everyone started somewhere.... that includes you too.

I look forward to seeing what you can do as well.... with your "experience"... I hope to pick up a few things...

One of the things i like about this place, we all have lots of big egos, it can be fun! (Yah, I said 'egos' plural. Gotta problem with that? =) I do feel I should remind some of you, be nice, we like new people here, everyone's got something to share, and some of us old timers more than others, heh. ##p1xl, one of the things we *do* learn around here is to judge folks more by the work they do than the words they speak, dig? Now I didn't notice anything to get offended by, but you obviously ruffled a few feathers, heh. (We have some *major* talents floating around here, and some of the best ones don't talk themselves up too much. Watch out, you may find yourself talking down to someone who's been around longer than you have!)

On that note, I'll second that request, got anything online we can look at and comment on? We may be silly at times, but we're dedicated, and curious as hell, usually!

This disgusting aberration of nature needs no motivation to devour helpless children in their beds.
Relishing despairing moans,
It chews kids up and sucks their bones,
And dissolves inside its mouth their li?l heads!

I know this ?cause I read it not Two hours ago,
And then I got the heebie-jeebies and the awful shakes.

My parents swore upon their honor that I was safe,
And not a goner.
I guess tomorrow they?ll see their sad mistakes.

In the morning,
they will come in and say,

Only then will they surmise the gruesomeness of my demise and see that my remains are in a heap.

Dad will look at mom and say,

They may not mind at first,

Yep, good 'ol Fort Worth.. its a crazy place, and I still havent figured it out yet (lived here 2 1/2 yeeahs), but it's definately an experience. I havent been posting often lately, which Is why you havent seen me around. I've been mostly lurking lately, waiting for the right time to strike... Coiling my catlike speed and reflexes for just the right time...

Err, actually I usually just feel humbled by everyone elses work and feel hopelessly inadequate.
