I'd like to get some of your opions/thoughts here...

I'm in the process of building my site now...
I've shown my progress to a few individuals here and there...
The main criticism is that the text is difficult to read.... I've heard it a couple times....
Presently I'm using Sevenet at 8 pt.
I sit pretty close to my monitor I guess.....
But what do you guys think.....

Sevenet....... 8 pt = too hard to read ????

Comments appreciated

are you going to use sevenet as a font for graphics or as an html font?

I don't even have sevenet so my browser's default font would kick in and that would be Times Roman...and yes I'd say at 8pt that would be to small to read. you may want to use something like Verdana....It looks good small and a lot of people have it.

general happy-joy is that 10px is the threashold for legibility. that's all i am going to say about that.

And 10px tends to be too small for some fonts on the macs

Besides the need to have the font for it to work I think NN makes anything under around 10 illegible

Whoops my bad. Make that anything under about 8pt illegible and anything under 10px
Thats with verdana as my font. Actually Sevenet was okay at 8pt. However Times New Roman (general default) was not. If I were you I'd pick another font or add more choices. I dunno it is a little small I wouldn't use it for displaying a news story but I think it is kinda cool for some design elements

I use Sevenet7 at 8px a lot, and nobody seems to bitch. I think you'd need to use it as graphics always, not as any inserted fornt, that might not work. I may be wrong, but doesn't flash use system fonts? Can't count on it always being there. If you use the bold version of sevenet7 (using the fake-bold option in photoshop), make sure you use a tracking of 100, and no anti-aliasing! (ever!)

Verdana 10px is my other favorite smallish font, though not as small as Sevenet7. Arial and Helveitca can sometimes be used at 9px, but Netscape will frequently attempt to anti-alias that as well, which is not so good, but barely readable, at least. (Helvetica is best if you need a really tight font, say in order to make a line of text small enough to fit on a button, Arial and Verdana are both slightly wider.)

Oh! BTW, using the point spec for setting your font size is not a good thing if you're concerned with exact layout, (or readability on the Macintosh!) For that translation, an 8pt font appears like a 6pt font on Windows, try it and see, no good. However, 8px is always equal to 8px! Pixels are good, we use them on the web. Inches are imaginary, and have little or nothing to do with what's on screen.

flash does not use system fonts. you can use any font you want in flash and it will stay true (instead of switching to default).
