I downloaded it a few months ago [hey I don't have a few hundred dollars lying around] and never bothered installing it. Is it a real improvement over 5.5 and worth my 5 minutes of installation time?

To be perfectly honest gav, I wouldn't know. I finally updated to 5.5 a few months before 6.0 came out and I'm very comfortable with it. I head some things I didn't like about 6.0, but I heard some things that I liked. I think my next purchase will be the upgrade to 6.5. Any major differences you find? Give us a personal review.

I've had a lot of little problems with it, it's not very stable. I just downloaded the upgrade to 6.0.1 (which you will want to do if you haven't already), and hopefully that will fix most of the bugs. But it does have a lot of very nice features, I think it's an improvment.

Jestah... I never seen 5.5 since I am new to Photoshop but I read that the new thing is LIQUFY tool which lets you make weird effects. I think its pretty cool to make chrome stuff.

6.0 is spiff in it's vectory goodness.

5.5 is spiff in it's stability.

4.0 sucked.

3.0 still gives me nightmares.

2.0 ... we won't talk about 2.0.

conclusion: i've been doing this too long. it's time to move on to macrame.

Depends on what you are using it for. For high resolution image adjustment and retouching there are no real new tools, and it is quite a bit slower. I use 5.0 for that (4.0 is even faster, but since it lacks the history function, I still prefer the 5.0).

For digital art and drawing it is also not ideal, as it is too slow.

Creating web graphics is what it does best, and it seems to me that most of the new functions are aimed directly towards that sort of useage.

BTW, is there a way to turn off the vector functions? I find it very annoying when I want to make lines
that are exact and clear.

6.0 is a marked improvement, in my opinion. The menu and toolbar system is improved - I find earlier versions of PS to be clunky in comparison. I really don't like Image Ready 3.0 - to me, it's very buggy, while 6.0 has been quite stable (though I'm not surprised my experience is an exception). PS 6 is a bit slow, I suppose, but my computer is quite fast, so it makes up for it.

I thought vectors would be a good thing, but since I'm not in the print biz, I haven't used it once. I needed some vector art, so I just used illustrator 9. Speaking of I 9, can someone please help me understand the pen tool? It's infuriating. It doesn't seem to function like Photoshop's in that the points are not draggable in the same way. I have read several manuals and I just can't get the functionality out of it. Help?

"how to use the pen tool," "pamela anderson wants to fuck you," and other books you'll never see.

dude, it's illustration. it's a set of a lot of techniques. it's not anything that anyone can tell you. fuck with it, figure it out.

I've heard good and bad about PS 6.0, but personally, I'm sticking with 5.0 because I'm so used to the interface. I'll look into upgrading when I get some time.
