Ever since Napster went down the tube, I've had a very hard time finding my mp3's. I've tried Gnutella and some others, but I haven't found anything remotely comparable to Napster.

Has anyone found an mp3 sharing network that actually works? I sure as hell can't.

i have never used any file-sharing tool. but i heared good things about WinMX, which should be able to access all networks there are! www.winmx.com but as i said, i dont use it myself.

i find my mp3s on irc, and on the local newsgroups.

I still use Napster (although not often because I think it's better to buy music than to download it, but that's another issue), I just don't type the artist's name when I search. You'll find the same songs under names like "Nync" (for N'Sync) and stuff.

Really digging Limewire of late.

Yes it uses the Gnutella network but it works quite well.

IRC?!?!
Sure you have to get to know people a little but with a mIRC/spr combo your only limits are your connection. It's a good place to find FTPs too. Been a while since I've been into all that so who knows what it's like now? Lemme know if it sucks now or just a general status report from any IRC ppl that know..

Ahem, Well, *I* for one don't condone such behaviour
but "I hear" that Gnotella is really good, in that you can run
multiple searches, create and use your own custom skins for the
tool, pause and resume downloads, monitor network load, and set
up your own private network... not that I would use any such thing,
you know :-)

Wow,
I'm doing something my parents told me NEVER to do... follow up on your own post... anyway, a good site to go to - again not that I'd ever use such a thing as napster, is afternapster (For those that are into such things :=)

mbridge, i usually use DALNet and the channels #mp3 and #mp3z.
the newsgroups i use, are those of my local ISP (chello), so they are only accessable for their clients.

Personally, I use AudioGalaxy. It is very good, but, lately they started to mark some songs as forbidden (like Napster), but since they can be listed with many different names, it's ok. Anyway, you can download the Satellite from the same web site (no need to go to download.com, etc.). Also, note that when you install AudioGalaxy, it will also install webHancer, which is considered to be spyware...

Still... nothing even comes close to Napster. That "was" the ultimate MP3 search engine.

The thing that sucks about all those other ones is that you have your shit in que forever!! Napster-you just click and you got it.

There is one cool program out there called Hotline. You can get anything you want there from songs to movies to software.

i uninstalled it and somehow it popped back up when i turned my puter on several days later (seriously... scared the poop outta me)

i love winmx. best music sharing *ever* :]

(also it allows me to still connect to napster, to get some techno that they havent put filters on)

KaZaA Rulz!

Hey, kazaa gives me literally every track i want -- no artists blocked or anything. Besides, for me it is just as good as the good-ol Napster, which I still use.
