Just curious what places you guys have used to register your domain names?
There are so many places and many of them seem pretty sketchy....

They seem to be rather cheap, yet they have all the useful tools to easily update the domain, as well as an easy process to purchase the domain.

The 30 or so domain names we own, plus the 100 or so we administer were all done through Network Solutions. We've real happy with them. Some places are a little cheaper, but Network Solutions (a division of Verisign) is the best at handling them, getting things done, etc.

But network solutions is so darn expensive...
Why pay $35 per year when you can get the same thing for $14

well..considering that I didn't know I could pay 14 bucks I went with network solutions. So if you think about it if I would spend an hour on looking for cheap registration how much would I really save???? ( considering time loss)
Just a thought..
Plus I paid 60 bucks for .tv domain and mail bin
It's not like it's 60 bucks a month.. It's for a whole year!

Yes but knowing is half the battle. Say that you know you can get a domain for $14. You can do a couple of things.
1) re-sell domains for say $20 you make $6 a pop. Not a bad deal. Not to ethical but it could be done.
2) While your company supports 100+ domains you can then save $2100 per year for your company who is paying premium rate else where. And while saving your company this amount every year, they give you a nice little christmas bonus for giving them this powerful piece of information.
Network solutions is not a monopoly any longer, make sure to search around for the better deal, why support those who wish to charge you more than the service is worth?

But Network Solutions does provide some nice tools that lets us look at the status of all of those domains at one time, in one view. Also, maintenance and admininstration is streamlined when you're dealing with multiple domains. It's much easier.

hey WarMage! I quoted GI Joe seconds ago in another thread... spooooky
networksolutions, they don't mess with you, they are reputable, they'll always be around, and as Pugzly said, they're great for administering multiple domains. Just don't give them a yahoo mail address, Yahoo formats your mail weird, wordwrap, that really goofs up their forms :P

www.alienhosting.com Domain registry with space plan is $25. 25MB/$9/mo. up to 400MB/ $35/mo.
Good support. Never had a problem.
If they had just killed Gilligan, they`d have been off the island in a week.

According to NetworkSolutions, NetworkSolutions has the InterNIC "monopoly" on
domain name registration - in other words, if you go with "sketchy.com" to
register your domain name, they (according to networksolutions) will have
to register through networksolutions anyway - sometimes the name won't transfer... UNLESS you register with networksolutions...
C'mon - what's the difference between $14 and $35 over one year? That;s less than the cost of a box of 50 floppy disks!
But then again it's free choice;
risk having your killer domain name get screwed up by some faceless little dot-com in the backstreets of Costa Rica forever... :-)

Network Solutions is a scary, scary place. We don't approve of them.
My main server is located at AIT and I register my domains through NameIt, since that's the partner with AIT. It's a pretty slick process. However, I did, once, take a chance with someone else, GoDaddy who registered and hosted a domain of mine...I was pleasantly surprised to note the amount of support that they offered, save for some issues with CGI and backend development...but that's all taken care of now.
I hope I answered the question. I forgot what it was.

Sorry, I wasn't clear -
I wouldn't HOST a domain at NetworkSolutions -
I just wouldn't register it anywhere else - for reasons stated.

well.. I was talking to this one lady at network solutions and she said that they were the first ones to register domain names. She also said that they have affiliate programs that people use. I don't know how much of it is true..
