The Asylum has a lot of new tallent coming in, and with that I thought it would be appropriate to let everyone in on the Gurus Network.

quote:
The Gurus Network. A network of gurus. It started as a dream, and perhaps it always *will* be a dream, but now it's a dream that has been given life. Welcome to our dream!
The Gurus Network is a collaborative effort, designed and produced by one of the biggest and best collection of lunatics I've ever had the honor of knowing. Not everyone you meet here will be officially in "guru" class yet, but they will be. We are all working towards the same end, a full and proper sharing of knowledge, experience, technique and inspiration. A willingness to dream is the only requirment for membership. Our associate members are typically webmasters of their own domains; they participate here because it's a fun place to be - this is just another way of sharing what they know. You don't need to be a full member to benefit from this site, the Network is built on a philosophy of sharing. Have fun! We certainly plan to.

Your pals, -the Gurus-

So what we would like from anyone and everyone here is a tutorial or maybe a rant. This site is designed to help everyone out there who is interested every different aspect of web design. Stop by http://www.gurusnetwork.com/work/ and see what is needed, read up on what you could do to help us out.

Anything and everything is appreciated. If you have a special tallent, are able to do a technique rather well, then write it up and submit it to us for our viewing pleasure. Also just stop by the main areas and check out what is there. There are many tutorials on many different topic, learn something, if you see something that is left out, write something up on it.

Come learn something from us, and maybe even give us a helping hand with teaching others how to do the same. Did I mention the fact that you could become a working member of the GN. We are a large group, many of the regulars here are members, check us out and maybe become one of us.

Current Members: (in the random order provided by the GN)
Bitdamaged, Steve Nelson, DL-44 ,2winsPapa ,eedn, JKMabry, briggl, DarkGarden, Nevex, Rend, Bugimus, Pugzly, Jestah, Boudga, Slime, fig, Skaarjj, Phil, mbridge, DocOzone, Allgood & Maa, WarMage

And a little bit about all of them is located here http://www.gurusnetwork.com/associates/

There is tons of information here, so join us in bringing the true ways of web design to all those who wish to learn.

cheers,

And I'll add that the original idea started here, at Ozone Asylum. Doc provided the domain name, and it's been real fun. Share your experience and expertise with the others. Showcase your talent!

Still working on mine as well. I'll have to update Steve on the new completion date.

And Pugzly, you still never got back to me about it. But don't worry, I'm sure you're really busy with the GN and everything.

I just got an email from Colin Smith over at www.photoshopcafe.com - message follows...

I dropped by the site and it looks like a cool place to be. I am interested in becoming an associate. I have a photoshop site and do tons of cool tutorials. If you get a chance drop by and let me know what you think. www.photoshopcafe.com <http://www.photoshopcafe.com>

I'm pretty impressed, it looks like he has a nice selection of tutorials, I'll fillhim in on the details of joining, ie: tutorials for the GN! The Gurusnetwork is going to be something wonderful on the 'net, even bigger as time goes by.

Hmm. I'd love to help...
*deep in thought*

Special talent?
I got it! I can fit my whole fist in my mouth!

Seriously, thanks for the invite. If I can think of something that hasn't been covered over there, that I can help with, I will.

Writing a tut for GN was definitely a learning experience for me on several fronts. Once I submitted, I had literally no idea what to expect -- reactions, feed-back, re-editing, and such. Who would have thought that my penchant for lateral thinking would be so well received? It was an awesome rush when my tut went live (little ol' me providing substance at GN).

Go for it. The world to gain.

Yeah, the GN is a great place. Jeni if you want to write a tutorial on fitting your hand into your mouth go for it! Make sure to provide pictures

It is a great way to learn.

Eye: We are looking forward to it.

Everyone Else: Take a shot at it, you have nothing to lose. If you feel you must, start simple. There is no need to go over board. A quick tip, or even a tutorial on say Style Sheets, on as simple as neet ways to use a PS tool, or how to code that need mouse over, or even a snipit of code you use to achomplish some menial task, nothing is too big or too small.

yeah jeni....just make sure the pictures are g-rated...this isn't one of *those* sites....

we have virtually nothing that deals with working for print there...so if you have something to share in that area it would be wonderful.

We are very open to going in various directions at once as well. Want to write a tutorial on a program that we don't have listed? Great! Whatever you have to offer, we're open to it. Now, of course, we have also had a history of being pretty scrutinizing, and a little on the demandng side.....don't let that inhibit you, but keep it in mind!

Yeah, it's fun. If you look in the forums, there is a COUNCIL area that talks about the submissions. Always people there to help and give comments on a pending tute. I've been working on coming up with a contest each month. Just when I had the perfect contest all mapped out, I realized I needed the solution for a project I was working on. So I decided not to have that contest for fear of using to my advantage. Ah well. I'm working on something else. I think we'll have to keep Mr. Max from entering though - he's too good. Stuff's not a challenge for his brain!

Make sure you are using the template for the tut.... as designated on the GN... all the info for posting the tut is on that page with the shell I believe.

Hi there :-)

I've got two short tut's formatted accordingly to instructions and ready to go...
One very simple on the use of javascript instead of SSI (if the host don't have that option), and one for a PHP-browserdetector.

They are pretty simple and basic and written back in 1999, but I thought they might be of interest.

I've got them up at my site too, will that create any conflict with the guru-site?
Dan

<edit> Arrgh, just read through some of the coding tuts at gurusnetwork, seems like mine's covered... well, thaey are a bit different so my offer still stands if you want them. </edit>
