I heard (I think fox news) that the price of gasoline will go up to $6/gallon. Don't know if that is correct, just heard it once - but if people panic it will drive the price up too.

They have confirmed that a 911 call went out from that flight from a cell phone that the plane was highjacked and that it looks like the pilot or something caused it to dive into a crash in the field.

IMO if that's true, that pilot is a hero.

Shiii, last I heard over here is that London Heathrow (Terminal 4 - Transatlantic flights) is pretty much no go, people are being put up in hotels near the airport.
Security over here (especially airports, military bases and London) is on high alert.
PM Tony Blair has issued a statement saying that the UK position with America is shoulder to shoulder (no compromise), and he's asked for all America's allies (European Nations inc Russia) to come together to erradicate the terrorist cancer in our world.

Concerning blood donations, again from USA Today:

The New York Blood Center sent all of its inventory to hospitals, in some cases hand-carrying it through chaotic streets, and mobilized blood banks throughout the region to collect more. "There's enough to handle emergency needs at the minute. That could change in an hour," spokeswoman Melissa McMillen said.

The American Red Cross did not call for emergency blood donations, saying it had 50,000 units ready to ship to New York if needed. However, it urged blood donors throughout the country to keep any appointments they have this week to give blood.

Officials at the city's largest blood donation center said they had only 40 points of O-negative blood left by mid-afternoon and could run out by evening. O-negative can be given to any patient, but only 5% of people have it to donate.

Just for the record, I've been following this thing since it happened (this afternoon for me.) It was a bit of a shock and panic situation, half of my family lives within 30 minutes of Manhattan, and the phones were*not* working at all. Thank god for email, and I just got the word that everyone is safe at their homes! Sweden's Prime Minister said publically that we should back up the US of A, no matter how violent and extreme their reaction. (Göran Persson is a bit of an ass, obviously.) Back to the news...

The president is on the move, this one from abcnews:

"The president had started the day at an elementary school in Florida, but landed in Louisiana shortly before noon. He was to leave there on Air Force One and continue traveling to undisclosed locations, said ABCNEWS White House correspondent Ann Compton, who was with the president. The pared-down press corps traveling with the president were not being told where they were going."

CNN TV reports that he may go back to Washington soon as a show of American strength. Wait and see I guess.

Rumor has it (my local news) that eventually the President might come to Wichita, Kansas (my city) becuase the Retired Air Force One , which just retired a few days ago sits in a hanger at McConnell Air Force Base while its being restored.

I guess the reasoning would be so there would be an option as to departure or maybe a distraction as to what plane was used if needed.

I do not know why they would bring him here but maybe my theory is correct.

The security for that area and about a 5 mile radius around McConnell Air Force Base is blocked off and closed. so it just might be true.

Airports are going to be closed for a while, this from Charlotte NC news:

Yep. The air base in my jurisdiction has scrambled most of of their aircraft. That doesn't happen too often......

Origination unclear, but Canadian air force treats them with caution
Ottawa ? Two Korean Air Lines planes ? one of which declared an emergency and was being treated as if it might be under the control of hijackers ? have been diverted to land in Whitehorse under escort from what are believed to be both Canadian and U.S. fighter jets, CBC said.

That's according to Yukon Premier Pat Duncan who spoke to the Globe and Mail today.

It is not clear where the aircraft came from or whether they are connected to the bombing attacks in New York or Washington.

Reports said the jet fighters that escorted the Korean planes were CF-18s.

same here, all 3 airbases in my state have scrambled fighters, earlier there were fighters in the air around the Kritland AFB and airport, nothing visible currently tho.

Seems like Vladimir Putin (President of Russia) is backing a strong counterstrike towards terrorism as well:

Just pulled this off CNN Europe.

All civilian flights over London have been stopped and UK defence facilities around the world put on the highest alert. Key buildings in London shut down, including the London Stock Exchange.

In France, armed troops have been deployed at airports and metro stations. Border controls have increased.

The U.S. Embassy in Paris is closed and will be shut again on Wednesday. The embassy is warning Americans in France to be careful about speaking English on the streets.

NATO Secretary-General George Robertson urged all non-essential personnel to leave the alliance's headquarters In Brussels and said they should not report to work on Wednesday.

Israel evacuated its diplomats from its U.S. facilities and closed its airspace to commercial aviation.

There was widespread confusion and congestion at many European airports, as airlines cancelled flights to the United States and recalled or diverted planes already in the air.

A spokesman for Canadian Minister of Transport David Collenette said all air traffic in Canada had been grounded, except for emergency and humanitarian flights.

Have you seen the amateur video by Dr. Mark Heath on CNN? He was right under the building when it collapsed! He hid behind a car and taped the whole damn thing!

"TORONTO - Schools and government offices in Whitehorse, Yukon were evacuated Tuesday as jet fighters escorted two commercial airliners to unscheduled landings, after aviation authorities suspected one of the aircraft may have been hijacked.
"One of the airliners is a Korean Airlines 747, the other an unknown 747. Both landed at Whitehorse airport. The jet fighters continue to circle over Whitehorse.
"Peter Novak of CBC Radio in Whitehorse told CBC News Online that aviation authorities said one of the aircraft may have been hijacked. Novak said highways in and out of town may have been closed, and a bomb squad was at the airport."

Does anyone have anymore info on the black boxes?

I am 17 yrs old, and I turn 18 in May. If we go to war with anyone over this incident, I am there all the way. If I can I'll have my parents sign the paperwork for me to enlist. Anyone else want to kick some Bin Laden ass?

P.S.: Nothing confirms that is WAS bin laden that coordinated this attack, but most things point in his directions. Everyone pray for the victims of this act of war, and pray for the U.S. Military to have mercy on bin laden as we tear him a new one.

F1_error- as of yet there is no URL to this video that I am aware of. I saw it on CNN They interviewed alot of the people on the street and found this guy with his video camera and asked him if they could use what he recorded on the news. THe video again is freakin awesome! The whole building comes down on him and he hides under a car. Then later he comes back to the car after getting some oxogen from a firefighter and says "that's the car that saved my fuckin life."

Someone in an earlier thread had heard rumors about gas prices going up. The following is excerpted from USA Today site:

"The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries Ali Rodriguez said that the Arab-dominated cartel would ensure world oil supplies and price stability.
"OPEC member countries are committed to their promises to guarantee sufficient oil supplies and their policy of strengthening market stability," Rodriguez said after the attacks.
"Furthermore OPEC's members are prepared to use their spare capacity, if deemed necessary, to achieve these goals."
"Rodriguez said there was no chance that any cartel members would threaten to use oil as an economic weapon in the Middle East situation.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that participated in all these threads for the updates all day. Especially Shiiizzzam. I would have felt really disconnected from it all if I had to sit through it alone in front of this computer. Thanks everyone. CNN- Reports that "Barbra Olson" was on the plane that crashed into the pentagon. The report says she called her husband and told him that the plane was being hijacked, she told him that the terrorist were armed with mere knives and box cutters. 3 minutes later the place crashed into the pentagon. Barbra Olson rest in peace (1955-2001)

Reports on CNN TV talk about a lady who had called her husband via cellphone from the plane that later crashed into the Pentagon. She said there was a group of terrorists armed with "knives and boxcutters". They had herded the passengers to the back of the plane, so she couldn't tell what was going on elsewhere. She kept asking her husband "What do I do, what do I do?" This chokes me up real bad ...

Sadly, Shiii has asked me to say that she wont be posting/updating for a while. She has recieved news of the worst kind. The loss of a family member, onboard one of the planes.

I just found out that two members of my family in NYC are unaccounted for, one is an architect who was spending some time in the WTC area on a job. This is an unbelievable national tragedy. I was driving down the freeway and two people were holding a HUGE American flag off the edge of an overpass. I have seen an amazing ammount of national pride, to donate blood you now have to make an appointment sometime tomorrow, they are overloaded with donations at all the banks locally. I am simply stunned by this whole incident.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Shi, and with the families of this nation.

I to have watched this most of the day on TV. Even tho I live in Ontario, I still feel great sadness. I have been watching all of the american stations as well as the canadian ones. From what i have heard, the plane forced down in whitehorse, Yukon is not in anyway associated.
I do know that downtown toronto let all employees go home from work. and the US consolute is closed and everyone is on high security up here. The Toronto airport is also closed and I think is only or was only taking diverted american flights.

Sitting up here I feel helpless but know my thoughts and prays are with everyone

I wholeheartedly agree. These people need to be taught that although they may not have morals, it is still not acceptable to murder large numbers of people (or quite frankly anyone for that matter) to prove a point. there are more acceptable ways to go about it, but they have lost that opportunity now.

My cousin was late for work on Wall Street this morning... his car was stopped with the rest of the traffic entering South Manhattan just as the second plane crashed into his building. Thank God for little miracles.

My deepest condolences to those whose families are affected by today's tragedies. As a seriously homesick ex-pat, it is my prayer that wisdom is eventually able to transcend emotion in the handling of this situation.

OK, I apologize if I'm repeating anything that has already been posted, but I'm currently at work (I work at the D-FW CBS affiliate) and do not have time to read all the threads. In fact, I was called in early this morning, shortly after the tragedy, and have been here nearly 14 hours and expect to be here a few more.

Two commercial planes were hijacked and collided with the World Trade Center this morning, the second approximately 18 minutes after the first. Shortly after that, a third plane hit the Pentagon. A fourth crashed just outside Pittsburg, which is believed to have been headed for Camp David.

Many people were witnessed jumping from the upper floors of the WTC to their deaths. Many were able to evacuate. (I know personally of an acquaintance who was working on the 27th floor of the first tower hit, but was able to get out.) However, both towers collapsed a short time later. A few hours following, another building in the WTC complex (Building Seven) also collapsed, but had already been evacuated.

All four planes were destined for California and were apparently chosen because of their large fuel load.

We got unconfirmed word that the second plane was delayed from takeoff for fifteen minutes and so may have been intended to collide in unison with the first. (Again, that is unconfirmed; I don't want to start any purposeless rumors.)

The casualties in New York are suspected to be in the tens of thousands, but it could be weeks before a more accurate number can be determined. The number of casualties in the Pentagon is also vague and has been estimated to be between 100 and 800. (That is not a typo -- the actual count is extremely difficult to determine at this time.)

The FAA shut down all flights in the United States, save four (that we know of here) that were allowed to leave DFW for New York, carrying assistance.

Who exactly is behind these terrorist attacks has not yet been determined, but a retaliation is eminent.

The bombings that were later witnessed in Afghanistan have been confirmed not to be initiated by the U.S., but apparently part of the civil war going on in that area.

As for gas prices skyrocketing, this is a panicked rumor according to Congressman Joe Barton, who we had in the studio earlier this evening. A few stations have raised their prices (up to $5.00 per gallon in Oklahoma), but these are actions taken by opportunistic gas-station owners. (Such actions in this state, incidentally, violate the Texas Trade Practices Act.) Many stations near our studio have already run out of gas, however, due to the panic.

On an additional side note, David Angell, executive producer of the TV show "Frasier," and his wife are known to have been on one of the hijacked flights.

I will try to check in again as soon as I can, but when I get out of here, I'm going to collapse in bed and will probably get up just in time to be back here again for further coverage.

I don't this this has been said yet..

The Australian Prime Minister, Jhon Howard was actualy in Washington at the time of the attack. He was in a hotel not far from the Pentagon when it was hit. He's currently safe in the Austrailan embasy and it planning on flying back to Australia tonight. He's given his full support to the American gonvernmane and it's people. We've had non stop coverage on every single free-to air TV station here since the events happened (SBS even stayed on-oline), however were mainly just getting the CNN footage.

I was shocked earlier to find hords of people blocking the Queen Street mall of Brisbane City watching the huge 10 foot TV screens installed for the Good Will Games recently held here, and there's not one happy or netural face umong them. Many people had tears runing from their faces... the whole world seems to be sharing Americas pain...

My sympthies go out to anyone affected by this...

This would have to be the sadiest event I have ever witnessed in my entire life, even writing this brings a tear to my eye...

I'm not a religious man, but I fell the need to say, love all and god bless.

Who was it that asked if today was a special day for the bombing, with some significance. I think I found it...

Last year on September 11, exactly one year ago, there was a major protest in Melbourne, Australia. They were protesting against world trade and globalisation...

Whether the two are related or not, this is still something that we will all remember for the rest of our lives. The fate of the global economy, of the American nation,and of the future of the world is hanging on a knife edge. Some think that there may be more terrorist attacks, but I am praying to God that they are wrong...

I don't really have anything to add, I just wanted to say that my thoughts and simpathy goes out to Shi and that I hope that moaiz's family memebers are found to be safe.

I was wide awake when I awoke to my alarm for school this morning. It's been unbelievable to hear everyone ring up the radio station and say what they feel to the whole of Melbourne and Melbourne and Australia are so affected by this. It so overwhelming.....Had most of my art classes on today where we have the radio on all the time.....there was a deathly silence as we hung onto every word uttered about this surreal, emotionally draining situation.
I really hope all you guys here at the asylum are coping as best as you can and you keep your spirits up.

The Australian Prime Minister John Howard is still over there.........thankfully our Lleyton Hewitt is safe in Adelaide. All though our politicians here cop a lot of flack they really do a good job when it comes to the crunch. They've dealt with it really well.
Apparently Ben Larden was responsible for the attack.......I heard just recently. He is the biggest . He needs his fucking head kicked inside out and all those people who are celebrating.

If worst comes to worse and WW3 hapenned then I would seriously think of going and kill every fucker that comes my way that had something to do with the WTC. And that I would do anything to help other countries and defend Australia. No ones gonna stuff Austrlia....I love it too much......
