I've got this weird monitor problem...when I move my monitor (from place to place), it loses the blue color. After a few days, it's ok again (the blue color is back). Also, occasionally (when its not used for awhile), the blue goes away after no particular time limit, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after hours of use. WTH is going on? It's really fustrating when I'm in the middle of PS, and the blue goes away. Then I have to power everything down, and power-up, again. Also, it makes no difference when I just power the monitor down, the problem (the blue is gone) is still there, only when i shut down everything does it correct the problem.

Sounds like your monitor's blue ink container has a leak. Better get that replaced. In the meantime, you can have some of my blue; i've got extra.

Hah hah, sorry, jk. That sounds like a pretty weird problem there, I don't know what would cause that.... funny though =)

WebShaman: I presume you've tried degaussing it?

It sounds a bit like the problem with my brother's new TV. He had to call out a guy to come and look at it and the conversation went along these lines.

Brother of the Emperor: My TV gets funny coloured patches on it when I move it over there but when I move it back they go away.

Repair Guy: Well don't move it over there then.

And that was his general conclusion after coming back a couple of times with esoteric pieces of electrical equipment.

Its also possible that your monitor is on its way out or there is another perfectly reasonable explanation.

Believe it or not I've actually experianced this exact same thing.
In my particular instance it was a bad VGA cable. Unplug from the back of your monitor and computer and make sure that all of the pins are straight and that all of your connections are good.

Look at the end of your cable. You will see that the pins are in the shape of a trapezoid. Turn cable so the narrow side is facing down. Now, number of pins go from right to left, then top to bottom--pin numbers like this:

5-4-3-2-1
10-9-8-7-6-5
15-14-13-12-11

1=Red
2=Green
3=Blue
4=Ground
5=Self-Test
6=Red Ground
7=Green Ground
8=blue ground
9=N.C.
10=ground
11=Ground
12=SDA
13=Horizontal Sync
14=Vert. Sync
15=SCL

So, to make a really long story short, do double check on pins 3 and 8.

Yeah we had that problem where I work. One of the computers (G4) that the graphics people use. The red went out of his. It started doing that and then eventually the red never came back. We just had to replace it since it was cheaper than fixing it.

One thought, what is in the vincinity of the monitor?
If you place it close to magnetic fields such as stereo speakers it can do wierd things to the picture, our TV did that before, after a while it "get's used to it" and the colors gradually correct, then you move it...

Hmmm...that with the cable I must try. Don't have any other electronic equiptment near my computer, so I guess that rules that out. And should it 'belly' up - not so bad. It wasn't that expensive. thanks for all the input.

WebShaman: DmS is describing a problem (I think) that is Degaussing related. The repairman brought with him various types of kit (including a hand held degausser?) and he thought the problem might have been caused by a pipe or a big piece of metal as he managed to eliminate eletrical interference.

Ahh, never thought of that...have to check. How does one check what is in the wall, anyway? As for degausing, I know what it is, just don't have one. *sigh* Well, for now, everything seems to be going well. Thanks.

WebShaman: Someone here must be a DIY expert or something. There are, I believe, devices which can detect these things so you don't put nails into vital conduits. There are also, I again believe, hand help degaussers. I'm not really sure this is the answer though (I prefer mobrul's explanation - as this kind of problem leads to more localised colour changes) but it would be one of the first things I try to eliminate. As this monitor has a degauss button that is easy to say (DUNK - I just degaussed it for fun).
