Whoops. Damn memory...man, this has really got me steamed...that somebody would actually steal someones stuff just to 'troll' them...that's sick. And, of course, he 'erased' all of the mail on his site....however, he hasn't taken down the other ripped stuff...just the smoke. At least he removed that.

When someone has that attitude of just fucking with other people to piss them off, it's pretty evil if you let them get to you. Take solace in the fact that someone who would do that must have had a really rough life if that is what they do for 'fun'. It might be infuriating that they have no shame, but remember that everyone hates them and their life will probably be a pathetic failure.

What i think;;
I don't believe he came here to cause commotion. He stole something hoping no one would notice. When he was caught he claimed that he had done it to cause commotion, as a scape goat. If you notice on his tag board he has a person named ''girl - something'' which more or less says "who's next" about a minute later he responds. Both were him i'm assuming. Another thing is, that smoke though he stole it, fit pretty well with his site. Also, would he really spend the effort, to post as much as he did, or even make a sig. A plan gone wrong i suppose. Either way for him to have such success on other people's work is horrible.

I do not think that he stole it and hoped no one would notice... how could he be that stupid? I think he stole and it he just didn't care if anyone noticed, because that's what he does on a regular basis. As to his "success," what success does he really have? So he won a web award, big deal. Some clueless people think he's cool. But he lost the respect of a whole lot of people. If that's success, I'll pass on it.

Along the lines of what jiblet said, the guy is a loser. He may think he's cool, a bunch of other people may think he's cool, but at the end of the day when he looks at himself in the mirror he is looking at a loser. I just hope he doesn't go through the rest of his life this way.

Success? He runs a fairly known page.. And for some reason i do believe that was his intentions, i'm not sure how else i can back it up, but it's what i think.

Well eyezaer, you got a point. Being upset does motivate a person to do something about it. I guess just for me personally I don't like getting upset because I think it's bad for my health. The way i see it, there's things in this world a lot more worth getting upset about (eg. US foreign policy) than a petty thief. If I was omnipotent, the only thing I would do is make sure that no one ever got fooled by this guy into paying him money.

To get in to the deeper philosophy of it. Two wrongs don't make a right. Attacking this guy, cracking his site, or whatever doesn't really improve the situation. In my mind, our daily creative work adds much more to human culture than berating someone else for being a loser and an asshole. Yes, it bothers me that some believe he is an artist, and so I don't oppose dissemination of the truth. The thing I've noticed about myself is that the best feelings in life come from creative acts, whether it be completing an important job with my co-workers or just giving someone a compliment. Revenge on the other hand is at best bittersweet.

Not to say that is true for everyone, it's purely a personal ideology.

Well, it seems that after the 'smaoke' has cleared, he still needs to dump the other ripped stuff...so until he decides to do that....

And as for hacking...I don't think he can...just airless threats...my system here at work is much to difficult for him to hack methinks...and if he does hack it, I don't think he will be able to get away with it...SAP does not like hackers...

BTW - his name is John Wycoco. If that is his real name, I'm pretty sure I can get his private address and Tel. number...maybe a private talking will change his mind...

Wel,, *I* know his name and address and telephone, but if anyone really needs it, well, I'll leave that as an excercise to the student, heh. ;-) I'm inclined to simply blow him off, it's simply not much worth the bother. I think we should perhaps take a "google bomb" approach to these borderline cases, where they do rip, but somehow enter the grey area where they have the "not 100% my work"? label. Let's say that whenever we discuss any graphic rippers in the future, we link to them with their url, but use a label like "stolen graphics" in the link. (I'm sure someone with a better imagination than I will come up with a better term. Should be generic, though.) Could be an interesting experiment.

Well Doc, that's what I thought at first...but as I started working my way through his links section, I strated running into more and more 'ripped' stuff...I think he's ripped just about everything on the site...just not from one source.

As to whether or not he is 'small-time'...well, I consider myself small-time...and his 'site' is a bit more than that...I'd rate him at 'middle'...if he had done the site himself (which appears not to be the case...).

He's managed to get linked by quite a bit of 'good' sites out there. And not a few award-sites as well.

And that's just not right.

BTW - benev, he has linked to your site. I find that rather strange, considering (and don't take this wrong, please...) that there really isn't all that much at your site...do you know him? Maybe from another Forum? If so, which Forum? And under which 'name'?

So, just got finished contacting (and looking) through all the sites that link him (that I know of). We'll see what happens...

Hey all. I'm not from the graphic side of things (as you can tell from my site), but I know what ripping is. DeltaV appeared a few months back and proceeded to 'jack' my shoutbox, adding it to his site. I couldn't figure out where the extra posts were coming from, but after people started refering to his site, I was a little suprised to say the least. I was a bit pissed to begin with, but decided I had bandwidth to share, so I gave him his own shoutbox, which is the one you see. It's hosted on my site, but it's his to use.

I don't want to tick anyone off here, since the graphic crews are pretty numerous , so I'll ask what you think I should do. I don't want to support him if he's going to be arrogant about the whole thing, but I've also offered to help him out. Can someone check this out and see if it was swiped from somewhere?



He offered to make me a link and returned with it kinda fast. I'm curious if it was ripped as well.

Then I would seriously think about finding a way to get rid of him using your shoutbox...even though the 'bombing' here was mentioned in a different context...google-bombing, which shouldn't affect your shoutbox...however, this shoutbox on his site is one way of informing visitors that come to his site of what he has done...and even though the posts are erased on a regular basis, they will continue until he removes all ripped stuff from his site...that is my personal word on this.

Since it is not my intent to cause you harm, I would suggest that you find a way to cut him off from using your shoutbox...or at least inform him that you do not want him using it...

As far as I'm concerned, I'll leave it up for you to post in. He asked me to look at a way to block posts from a certain IP address and I didn't know why. Now I do. If you want to annoy the piss out of him, feel free to use my resources If I pull his shoutbox, he'll prolly resort to stealing mine again In the mean time, I'll look at a way to stop him from doing so, after your work is done

As to waiting...hmmm...if the results are those that are wished i.e. that he takes down that which he ripped, then I guess you can do whatever you feel is correct...however, it seems he is 'using' you, and your stuff, and not for good purposes...you really want to be associated with that? Well, that's your call, man.

BTW - I think John is a pretty lonely fellow...I don't think there are any others on his site...and I think it's starting to work...at least he now is mentioning of the liquisoft graphic .

Actually, before my shoutbox incident, I'd never heard of him. And now that I know what else is going on, I don't feel the need to be the nice guy. I'm willing to let you guys use my Shoutbox to leave him messages. If he pulls it from his site, then I'm done anyhow. I'm offering to leave it up for your benifit, not his.
