Greetings,

A friend of mine at work wants to sell his iMac but he doesn't know what it's worth. I was hoping some of the Mac experts here might be able to help. Here is all the info I was able to dig up on it:

Blue iMac - PowerPC G3 450 MHz
Mac OS 9.1
320 MB RAM
Video RAM: 8 MB
ATI, Rage 128Pro video
NIC & Modem built in
19 GB HDD
DVD-ROM
HP 648 Inkjet printer

I think he want's to put it on E-bay but I'm not oo sure. Does anyone have an idea as to what he should be asking for this computer? Is there a website maybe that has used Mac pricing?

Regards,
Charlie

Well Piper, you might want to try searching Ebay for used iMacs seeing how much there selling for. I would imagine they would be going for about a few hundred dollars, not too much more.

I wouldn't way more then $300 for one personally.

I couldn't tell you a price exactly but with new systems being G4 and 1 Ghz speed, the system your friend is selling really isn't worth much. Sorry about that but...

don't you?!?

Thanks, Jestah.

I did look at ebay but there are only two or three for sale and the specs aren't really close. Going by the price of those units though, I think your guess is right on.

Thanks,
Charlie

$300? No way. That's pretty souped up for one of the previous Imacs...Off the top of my head, I'd think that he should ask around $600 for it. It has a good size hard drive, that 450mhz g3 chip is nothing to scoff at, and a good amount of RAM too. Macs don't seem to degrade in price that fast and that much. I've actually been shopping for macs lately...Here are some of the sites that sell used:
http://sell-a-mac.com/usa/USA.htm http://www.macofalltrades.com/ http://www.powermax.com/cgi-bin/generate.cgi?p=C-U51997

The first one has a lot of used macs being sold by the owners. Hopefully that helps
Edit>After looking at what others are asking, I'd say he should ask for $700-$750, depending on what software it has on it.

Wow! Thanks, Jeni

He just sold it to a guy here at work for $350. I don't think that there are too many apps installed on it, there is something like 18 GB of free HDD space. Maybe I better not show him this thread Thanks to all who commented.

Oh, yeah, $300? That was *way* too low, especially with all that RAM! That would be a kick-ass machine for darn near anybody starting out, even for someone pretty far along in terms of graphics, video, or just getting connected without having a room dedicated to hardware. Too bad, I would've dropped $300 on that machine in a second, and believe me, I need no more computers, but still! Too much. (Or, too little!)

That 450mhz processer isn't exactly 450 mhz. See, since mac uses a diffrent chipset, that 450 mhz processer is really anywhere between 900 -1100 mhz.

Actually, my Macintosh G4 at 450Mhz routinely out-performs my PIII/850 on heavy computing/calculations, no problem. Hard to say what I'd compare a G3 at 450Mhz to, but still not a shabby machine at all. ANYways, it's gone now, sold! Need we drag this thread out, torturing the poor soul who sold their Mac too cheaply?

I have a G3 266 and that performs pretty nicely to this day. Plus you would be suprised who will fork out the cash for an Imac. I used to work at a MAJOR computer chain, (and no, not at any apple stores. I will not mention any names, but it is a HUGE Apple affiliate,) and we were selling the Imac 500s for about $900 four months ago. Just to give you an idea.

Damn, and I was getting ready to email Charlie and tell him to ship it to me, but NNNNOOOOOO, you all had to ruin it for me

I agree with Jeni, I think $600-$700 would be a good price. It has 320MB Ram in it! That's quite a bit. Good video card and a DVD-ROM!
