ok i downloaded some tool videos, (mpeg's), and I got me a burner, if i burn them, will it be dvd playable...

No.. you need a DVD-R and recordable DVD's... and even then, I'm not sure how videos have to be encoded for DVD.
Your videos will be playable on any computer though.

yeah... the DVD will also have to be able to play mpeg files. Some DVD;s do... some dont, it is an extra feature.

Actually Dan and eyezaer, ever heard of VCD's, other-wise known as Video-CD's. I tryed to burn (downloaded, don't sue me) movies onto a VCD then stuck it in my DVD Player but it didn't work, because my DVD Player doesn't play burned CD's (goddamn it). Anyways, it plays in my Comp DVD player like a regular DVD, and my friend has gotten it to work in his DVD Player.

hmm... I thought that DVD players the supported Mpeg could play normal cdroms... but the problem is, a normal CDR can not hold much video.

As far as DVD and VCD burning, if you have the money then a DVD burner and a few discs will run you about $1000. The burner should come with burning software that will encode the video to DVD format. However, I don't think you want to waste an 8 GB dvd with a few videos downloaded from the internet, so a VCD is a good bet.

However, they will only play on DVD players that are able to read CD-R and CD-RW formatted discs. It should say it on the feature list of the player. However, there are a few exceptions. A really good site for this stuff is www.vcdhelp.com. They should give you all need to know about encoding formats and some freeware utils to help you out.

And I pray for the day when DVD burners drop below $200.

I went down the local computer fair and they were selling a player that plays dvd's, vcd's, mp3's and just about everything else on a cd for £89

Assuming that this is copyright material lets try a similar query:

"I downloaded Tool's latest album today and want to convert it to an audio CD"

If you really wish to discuss such matters do it in the abstract:

"How do I make an mpeg playable on a DVD"

For the following reasons:

1. It could quite easily be a query related to non-pirated material giving the Doc plausible deniability.

2. If I'm a lawyer (or whoever does these things) doing specific searches for e.g. the illegal downloading of Tool videos I'd possibly stumble across this. I'd search out some more posts by you and I'd be very interested to see the contents of your hard drive (and counterfeitbacon's). You might want to sit your mother down and explain exactly what you've been up to online and then ask her where does the buck (in this case large fines and potential imprisonment) stop? I doubt it would stop with a minor but it certainly could stop at the door of the person who bought the computer, is paying for the Internet access, has the computer under their roof and should, theoretically, be monitoring the Internet usage of a minor. Now I'm thinking back a long way but when I was your age I think I would have been pretty sick if my activities and indiscrete talk had got my parents into big trouble. So be discrete and talk in more abstract terms (no one needs to know if it is a Tool video or your uncle's wedding video) and possibly find a forum that is more conducive to this kind of discussion (as another thread has shown we do visit different forums to cover different aspects of what we are interested in - if you wish to discuss matters related to pirating copyright material then there are places to discuss this and they aren't here).

I think Nero (ahead.de) can burn VCDs from MPGs, but I have a good Sony DVD player which says it can play VCDs(it even has a little light that says if its playing a DVD VCD or Music), but it wont play any (or music CDs) !! I tried some VCDs and they play in my friends house, but not mine !, so um, find out if yours can and there you go.

123studios.com (i think) sell a program that converts DVDs into DivX+VCDs it can also make VCDs, it comes with buring software, it has everything, or so Ive heard, I dont have it myself.
