OK, so, this one....

Um, basically what she is saying is that she couldn't understand how Windows works and her computer wasn't pretty?

I don't know if this is the kind of person I'd want pitching my products....

The Gates one was damned funny though...

Especially since she is looking to be around 30 and needing to have her parents buy the computer for her.

OK, the Bill Gates one was funny. The one that Krets linked to wasn't even slightly amusing. Why? Because the moment I clicked on the picture my system locked up. And I mean locked up solid. No task manager, nothing. I had to reboot my computer. I've been running Win 2k on my computer for quite a while now, and this is the first time my system has locked up like this. Did this happen to anyone else? Is this just an extremely underhanded marketing ploy by Apple?

Suho, the page from Apple's web site requires Apple QuickTime, and probably that's the reason why it locked up your computer. Apple haven't done really good job with ActiveX version of plug-in, which is acutally just a wrapper for the old pug-in...

Actually, I have the latest QuickTime installed on my computer, and I've used it for other things and never had a problem. That's why I can't figure this one out...

Well, Suho, I'm sure this wouldn't have happened if you had been using a Macintosh? brand computer! I actually use one of each, Macintosh? and Windows?, it helps me "take the high ground" in disputes like this. I don't think this campaign is really aimed at any of the kinds of users we have here, rather at the relative newbies or casual users. (Possibly, not aimed at "switchers" at all, but more at first time users instead!

I usually tell people to get the same kind of system as that 16 year old kid down the street who you can call with support problems.

I knew it! I knew it couldn't have been a coincidence.

As for using two computers, I would, but then I'd have to stack the systems (monitors included) on top of each other. That's how small the broom closet is that I'm living in now. Yep, I ain't goin' nowhere...

Oh, and that 16 year old (well, 18 year old) kid down the street is my kid brother! I remember I got my first C-64 the year he was born, and I used to write little games for him to play with. I changed his diapers, for crying out loud, and then he goes and grows up to be a bigger computer geek than I ever was. My only consolation is that I can still code better than he can... that's my last trump card. *sigh*

Yeah, I'm with you Doc. Apple's got some decent systems, and one of these days I'll scrounge up the cash to get one for the obvious "geek" reasons.

My only qualm with Macs is the lack of games support, and the inability get into the guts of the OS.

:edit: Yeah, suho, I know what you mean. There's a hacker adage that goes: "No matter how good you are, there's always a six year old somewhere who's better." :edit:
